Domain-Specific Characteristics of Data Quality

2017

The research discusses the issue how to describe data quality and what should be taken into account when developing an universal data quality management solution. The proposed approach is to create quality specifications for each kind of data objects and to make them executable. The specification can be executed step-by-step according to business process descriptions, ensuring the gradual accumulation of data in the database and data quality checking according to the specific use case. The described approach can be applied to check the completeness, accuracy, timeliness and consistency of accumulated data.

Evolution-Oriented User-Centric Data Warehouse

2011

Data warehouses tend to evolve, because of changes in data sources and business requirements of users. All these kinds of changes must be properly handled, therefore, data warehouse development is never-ending process. In this paper we propose the evolution-oriented user-centric data warehouse design, which on the one hand allows to manage data warehouse evolution automatically or semi-automatically, and on the other hand it provides users with the understandable, easy and transparent data analysis possibilities. The proposed approach supports versions of data warehouse schemata and data semantics.

Conversion d'un carreau de Bézier rationnel biquadratique en un carreau de cyclide de Dupin quartique

2006

Dupin cyclides were introduced in 1822 by the French mathematician C-P. Dupin. They are algebraic surfaces of degree 3 or 4. The set of geometric properties of these surfaces has encouraged an increasing interest in using them for geometric modeling. A couple of algorithmes is already developed to convert a Dupin cyclide patch into a rational biquadratic Bezier patch. In this paper, we consider the inverse problem: we investigate the conditions of convertibility of a Bezier patch into a Dupin cyclide one, and we present a conversion algorithm to compute the parameters of a Dupin cyclide with the boundary of the patch that corresponds to the given Bezier patch.

3D digital tools for the archaeological massive artifacts documentation

2022

This study focuses on 3D acquisition and documentation procedures, innovating and implementing traditional survey methods to promote and increase the efficacy of the historical and archaeological heritage fruition. Especially within museum itineraries, modern digital technologies, if consistently applied, can promote a better interpretative reading, implementing the knowledge of scholars. Moreover, in coherence with the Horizon Europe “Cultural Heritage” area of intervention, for a new future inextricably linked to the history of Cultural Heritage, it is essential to experiment approaches that favor innovative mechanisms of fruition and promotion of works of art, based on the idea that the …

Towards a multi-agent model to prevent damage caused by cocoa mirids to cocoa pods

2019

Agriculture in general and cocoa farm in particular is one of the primary sources of income for several African countries. Although quite useful for the development of Africa, cocoa production is faced with several challenges like the diseases of cocoa trees. Mirid (Sahlbergella singularis) is the worst pest affecting cocoa production across west Africa causing 30% to 40% of damage on cocoa production. It is difficult to control the mirids’ population and its impact on the cacao production. Related works on mirids studied the mirids population as a macroscopic entity without considering local interactions of individual mirids. These models did not consider the behaviours and the environment…

Phosphorus recovery by struvite crystallization in WWTPs: Influence of the sludge treatment line operation

2010

Phosphorus recovery by struvite (MgNH(4)PO(4).6H(2)O) crystallization is one of the most widely recommended technologies for treating sludge digester liquors especially in wastewater treatments plants (WWTP) with enhanced biological phosphorus removal (EBPR). In this paper, phosphorus recovery by struvite crystallization is assessed using the rejected liquors resulting from four different operational strategies of the sludge treatment line. Phosphorus precipitation and recovery efficiencies of between 80-90% and 70-85%, respectively, were achieved in the four experiments. The precipitates formed were mainly struvite, followed by amorphous calcium phosphate and, in some experiments, by calci…

Managing Multi-center Flow Cytometry Data for Immune Monitoring.

2014

With the recent results of promising cancer vaccines and immunotherapy 1 – 5 , immune monitoring has become increasingly relevant for measuring treatment-induced effects on T cells, and an essential tool for shedding light on the mechanisms responsible for a successful treatment. Flow cytometry is the canonical multi-parameter assay for the fine characterization of single cells in solution, and is ubiquitously used in pre-clinical tumor immunology and in cancer immunotherapy trials. Current state-of-the-art polychromatic flow cytometry involves multi-step, multi-reagent assays followed by sample acquisition on sophisticated instruments capable of capturing up to 20 parameters per cell at a…

Observations and snow model simulations of winter energy balance terms within and between different coniferous forests in Southern Boreal Finland

2015

Variation of canopy properties between different forest types is seldom taken into account in hydrological and climate models, and consideration of variation inside a forest is normally omitted. In this work, three data sets on near surface energy balance terms (incoming shortwave and longwave radiation; air and snow–soil interface temperatures) were collected in the southern boreal coniferous zone in Finland during three winters below different types of forest canopies. The aim was to evaluate the ability of a snow mass and energy balance model with a canopy module to reproduce the observed differences in below-canopy incoming radiations and snow–soil interface temperature. Clear differenc…

Hyperspectral UAV-Imagery and photogrammetric canopy height model in estimating forest stand variables

2017

Remote sensing using unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) -borne sensors is currently a highly interesting approach for the estimation of forest characteristics. 3D remote sensing data from airborne laser scanning or digital stereo photogrammetry enable highly accurate estimation of forest variables related to the volume of growing stock and dimension of the trees, whereas recognition of tree species dominance and proportion of different tree species has been a major complication in remote sensing-based estimation of stand variables. In this study the use of UAV-borne hyperspectral imagery was examined in combination with a high-resolution photogrammetric canopy height model in estimating forest v…
