Student behavioral engagement as a mediator between teacher, family, and peer support and school truancy

2014

This study investigated the associations between student's behavioral engagement; teacher, family, and peer emotional support; and school truancy. Student-reported data of 821 Finnish junior high school students were analyzed using structural equation modeling. Teacher and family support were positively associated with student behavioral engagement, which in turn was negatively associated with truancy. Behavioral engagement mediated the associations between teacher and family emotional support and truancy. Maternal teaching of reading and children's reading skills in Grade 1: Patterns and predictors of positive and negative associations

Abstract The main aim of the study was to identify subgroups of children based on the associations between the reported frequency of maternal teaching of reading and children's reading skills, and whether these subgroups differ with respect to mother-related (i.e., education, controlling behavior, and emotions in homework situations) and child-related (i.e., reading habits and gender) background factors. The Antecedents of Customer Loyalty - Results of an Empirical Study in the Automotive Industry

Customer satisfaction is regarded as the key to customer loyalty in the automotive industry. However, this relationship is influenced by several other variables, like switching barriers or variety seeking. This paper provides a structural equation model with latent variables for modeling this complex relationship. According to literature, high satisfaction should lead to loyalty but is heavily affected by moderating variables. An empricial study is reported which supports these predictions as well as the arguments on which they are based.

Development of need for recovery from work over one year: A person-centered approach

This longitudinal questionnaire study conducted among 274 Finnish employees (57% women, average age 45.9 years) in a variety of jobs aimed at identifying groups of employees who share similar mean levels and changes in need for recovery and finding out whether factors regarded as antecedents of need for recovery distinguish between the different groups of need for recovery across one year. Using mixture modeling eight groups of need for recovery were identified. A thermodynamically consistent CZM for low-cycle fatigue analysis

A cohesive zone model for low-cycle fatigue analysis is developed in a consistent thermodynamic framework of elastic-plastic-damage mechanics with internal variable. A specific fatigue activation condition allows to model the material degradation related to the elastic-plastic cyclic loading conditions, with tractions levels lower than the damage activation condition. A moving endurance surface, in the classic framework of kinematic hardening, enables a pure elastic behavior without any fatigue degradation for low levels loading conditions.

The purpose of the article is to introduce possibilities of using Augmented Reality instructions in order to better understand technical drawings. The aim of these instructions based on 3D models is to create AR training applications and analyze their impact on the users. These instructions consist in a 3D model, superimposed over the technical drawing. Virtual prototyping of a new intramedullary nail for tibial fractures

In this work a new distal interlocking system has been developed which is easy to use, allows a reduction of the operating time and consequently the exposure to radiations both for surgeon and patient. The main goal of this study has been the design of a new intramedullary nail for tibial fractures able to simplify and speed up the distal locking operation phases. Building 3D Geometric and Kinematic Models of Five-Axis Machine-Tools for Manufacturing Prosthetic Devices

The paper presents the process of building and testing a geometric and kinematic model of a five-axis machining center, which can be used for accurate cutting processes simulation of complex parts. After building the model, it was be tested by simulating the machining process of a hip joint prosthetic device. The prosthetic device was chosen because of its complex shape and because it was obtained by a 3D scanning process, which means that the part was reconstructed using meshes, instead of surfaces, which makes the toolpath control more difficult.

Behaviour modelling notation for information system design

Problems related to behaviour modelling within the platform independent model (PIM) during the model driven design are discussed in the paper. The emphasis is on design problems for information systems, especially on building a behaviour draft. At first issues in the traditional approach using sequence diagrams are discussed. Then a new approach based on activity diagrams is proposed. An extension of activity diagram notation specifically oriented towards comprehensive and readable behaviour design description is presented.
