The ion-optical design of the MARA recoil separator and absolute transmission measurements of the RITU gas-filled recoil separator

2011

In this thesis work, the use of two complementary recoil separators for studies of nuclear structure via fusion-evaporation reactions are discussed. The design and the main ion-optical properties of the vacuum-mode recoil-mass separator MARA, intended for studies of nuclei with N Z close to the proton drip-line, are presented. MARA (Mass Analysing Recoil Apparatus) consists of a magnetic quadrupole triplet followed by an electrostatic de ector and a magnetic dipole. The working principle of MARA is discussed and the reasons for the choice of the optical parameters of the elements are given. The performance of MARA for di erent kind of fusion reactions has been studied with Monte Carlo simul…

Iterative geometric modelling and new world of shapes

2010

ASPECTS REGARDING THE OPTIMIZATION OF THE QUALITY OF MANAGERIAL DECISIONS - SOLVING AN OPTIMIZATION PROBLEM IN THE SENSE OF SUSTAINABILITY WITH WINQSB

2012

In this paper we present an optimization problem solving, problem that is mathematically shaped as a linear programming problem. This is made with the purpose of finding an optimal solution which is also a sustainable one. In the present and future society, it is clear that nothing can be done honestly, but only in the sense of a professional and sustainable thinking (Konrad, C., 2011, pp.202-217, Petrescu, I., 2006, p.1). To think sustainable can also mean “to be calculated”, in popular language “to choose wisely”, all for achieving the proposed project, being careful to using non-renewable resources, to pollution, to protection for human resource, etc. Of course that the logical and preci…

APPLYING PERT AND CRITICAL PATH METHOD IN HUMAN RESOURCE TRAINING

2011

The subject of the article is referring to the modelling and simulating of the formation of human resources by applying the PERT/CPM (Program Evaluation and Review Technique/Critical Path Method) and the taking into consideration of some risks associated to this activity. The aim of the article is to offer practical support to the management of organizations in order to make a formation program of human resources, which implies activities of precedence and interrelated, critical paths, the distribution of time resources and necessary costs for the fulfilment of the organizational objectives.

MODELLING AND SIMULATING RISKS IN THE TRAINING OF THE HUMAN RESOURCES BY APPLYING THE CHAOS THEORY

2012

The article approaches the modelling and simulation of risks in the training of the human resources, as well as the forecast of the degree of human resources training impacted by risks by applying the mathematical tools offered by the Chaos Theory and mathematical statistics. We will highlight that the level of knowledge, skills and abilities of the human resources from an organization are autocorrelated in time and they depend on the level of a previous moment of the training, as well as on the impact of the risk factors that can materialize in the process of the continuous training of human resources. The process of self-correlation and continuous training ensures the sustainable and qual…

Towards Practical Cybersecurity Mapping of STRIDE and CWE — a Multi-perspective Approach

2021

Software vulnerabilities are identified during their whole life-cycle; some vulnerabilities may be caused by flaws on the design while other appear due to advances on the technologies around the systems. Frameworks such as OWASP are well- known and are used for testing a systems security before or after implementation, and such testing is carried out against the existing system. Threat modeling however focuses on the early stages of the system design when it is feasible and easy to fix security-related flaws and prevent possible damage caused by them. For example, STRIDE is one very popular threat modeling framework. A STRIDE threat modelling specialist deals with abstract categorizations o…

Towards a Great Design of Conceptual Modelling

2020

Humankind faces a most crucial mission; we must endeavour, on a global scale, to restore and improve our natural and social environments. This is a big challenge for global information systems development and for their modelling. In this paper, we discuss on different aspects of conceptual modelling in global environmental context. The paper is the summary of the panel session “The Future of Conceptual Modelling” in the 29th International Conference on Information Modelling and Knowledge Bases. peerReviewed

The Role of Anticipated Guilt and its Neutralisation in Explaining Responsible Online Shopping

2023

Although responsible consumption has been the target of growing interest in academic research, the antecedents of responsible online shopping remain poorly understood. In this study, we address this gap in prior research by focusing on the role of anticipated guilt in explaining responsible online shopping. By using data from 479 Finnish consumers, we aim to answer two research questions: (1) how strong an antecedent of responsible online shopping intention is anticipated guilt in relation to other potential antecedents and (2) how efficiently can consumers regulate their resulting feelings of guilt by using different kinds of neutralisation techniques? We find anticipated guilt to be a str…

Commenting on poverty online : A corpus-assisted discourse study of the Suomi24 forum

2020

This paper brings new insight to poverty and social exclusion through an analysis of how poverty-related issues are commented on in the largest online discussion forum in Finland: Suomi24 (‘Finland24’). For data, we use 32,407 posts published in the forum in 2014 that contain the word köyhä (‘poor’) or a predefined semantically similar word. We apply the Corpus-Assisted Discourse Studies (CADS) method, which combines quantitative methods and qualitative discourse analysis. This methodological solution allows us to analyse both large-scale tendencies and detailed expressions and nuances on how poverty is discussed. The quantitative analysis is conducted with topic modelling, an unsupervised …

MODELLING BIOGAS GENERATION AND RELEASE FROM MUNICIPAL SOLID WASTE LANDFILLS

2015

MSW sanitary landfills represent nowadays one of the most important issue related to the waste management cycle. In particular, knowledge about biogas production is a key aspect for a proper exploitation of this energy source, even in the after-care phase. In the present study, a simple mathematical model was proposed for the simulation of biogas production. The model is based on 1st order biodegradation kinetic and takes also into account the temperature variation in time and depth and the landfill settlement. The model was applied to a real landfill located in Sicily (ITALY) and its simulation result was compared with experimental data (volumes of biogas collected by the recovery system a…
