Nonlinear optical properties of silver nanoparticles: separating thermo-optical and Kerr effects

2021

In this paper, we present a study on thermo-optical effect in core-shell silver/thiol-termination ligand nanoparticles. Nanoparticles were dissolved in Dichloromethane. Experimental measurements were carried out using a Z-scan setup. As laser sources we used two 1064 nm lasers: i) 28 ps pulse width laser with 1000 Hz pulse repetition rate; ii) 8 ns pulse width laser with changeable pulse repetition rate 200 – 40 000 Hz. To study what processes lead to refractive index changes we used the polarization-resolved Z-scan method. Comparing ps and ns results showed that response time of single pulse thermal effects for organic solvents depends on beam size while for nanoparticles it corresponds to…

Volume integrated phase modulator based on funnel waveguides for reconfigurable miniaturized optical circuits.

2015

We demonstrate the integration of a miniaturized 30(x) μm × 30(y) μm × 2.7(z) mm electro-optic phase modulator operating in the near-IR (λ = 980 nm) based on the electro-activation of a funnel waveguide inside a paraelectric sample of photorefractive potassium lithium tantalate niobate. The modulator forms a basic tassel in the realization of miniaturized reconfigurable optical circuits embedded in a single solid-state three-dimensional chip.

Octave-spanning ultraflat supercontinuum with soft-glass photonic crystal fibers

2009

We theoretically identify some photonic-crystal-fiber structures, made up of soft glass, that generate ultrawide (over an octave) and very smooth supercontinuum spectra when illuminated with femtosecond pulsed light. The design of the fiber geometry in order to reach a nearly ultraflattened normal dispersion behavior is crucial to accomplish the above goal. Our numerical simulations reveal that these supercontinuum sources show high stability and no significant changes are detected even for fairly large variations of the incident pulse. Improved All-Fiber Acousto-Optic Tunable Bandpass Filter

2017

An all-fiber acousto-optic tunable bandpass filter based on a 1.185-mm long coreless core mode blocker is reported. Experimental results demonstrate a minimal insertion loss of 1.2 dB at the optical resonant wavelength of 1527.7 nm with 3-dB optical bandwidth of 0.83 nm. The optimization of the device takes into account the attenuation of the acoustic wave and leads to an asymmetric configuration in which the coupling section is shorter than the recoupling part. Under the effect of a standing flexural wave the device can be operated as a bandpass modulator. The device exhibits a maximum modulation depth of 28%, 4 dB of insertion loss and 0.97 nm of optical bandwidth at 4.774 MHz.

Enhanced nonlinear spectral compression in fibre by external sinusoidal phase modulation

2016

International audience; We propose a new, simple approach to enhance the spectral compression process arising from nonlinear pulse propagation in an optical fibre. We numerically show that an additional sinusoidal temporal phase modulation of the pulse enables efficient reduction of the intensity level of the side lobes in the spectrum that are produced by the mismatch between the initial linear negative chirp of the pulse and the self-phase modulation-induced nonlinear positive chirp. Remarkable increase of both the extent of spectrum narrowing and the quality of the compressed spectrum is afforded by the proposed approach across a wide range of experimentally accessible parameters.

All-optical nonlinear processing of both polarization state and intensity profile for 40 Gbit/s regeneration applications

2011

International audience; In this paper, we report all-optical regeneration of the state of polarization of a 40-Gbit/s return-to-zero telecommunication signal as well as its temporal intensity profile and average power thanks to an easy-to-implement, all-fibered device. In particular, we experimentally demonstrate that it is possible to obtain simultaneously polarization stabilization and intensity profile regeneration of a degraded light beam thanks to the combined effects of counterpropagating four-wave mixing, self-phase modulation and normal chromatic dispersion taking place in a single segment of optical fiber. All-optical regeneration is confirmed by means of polarization and bit-error…

Actively mode-locked all-fiber laser by 5 MHz transmittance modulation of an acousto-optic tunable bandpass filter

2018

Active mode-locking of an all-fiber ring laser by transmittance modulation of an in-fiber acousto-optic tunable bandpass filter (AOTBF) is reported. Cavity loss modulation is achieved by full acousto-optic mode re-coupling cycle induced by standing flexural acoustic waves. The modulator permits the implementation of 28 dB of nonresonant light suppression, 1.4 nm of modulation bandwidth, 74% of modulation depth and 4.11 dB of optical loss in a 72.5 cm-long all-fiber configuration. The effects of the modulated AOTBF on the laser performance are investigated. Transform-limited optical pulses of 8.8 ps temporal width and 6.0 W peak power were obtained at 4.87 MHz repetition rate.

Recycled Photons Traveling Several Millimeters in Waveguides Based on CsPbBr 3 Perovskite Nanocrystals

2021

Reabsorption and reemission of photons, or photon recycling (PR) effect, represents an outstanding mechanism to enhance the carrier and photon densities in semiconductor thin films. This work demonstrates the propagation of recycled photons over several mm by integrating a thin film of CsPbBr3 nanocrystals into a planar waveguide. An experimental set-up based on a frequency modulation spectroscopy allows to characterize the PR effect and the determination of the effective decay time of outcoupled photons. A correlation between the observed photoluminescence redshift and the increase of the effective decay time is demonstrated, which grows from 3.5 to near 9 ns in the best device. A stochast…

Theory of parabolic pulse propagation in nonlinear dispersion decreasing optical fiber amplifiers

2008

Optical fibers ; Nonlinear optics ; Optical fiber amplifiers ; Optical amplifier ; Optical solitons ; Electromagnetic wave propagation ; Pulse propagation ;; International audience; We show that pulse spectral broadening in normally dispersive nonlinear fiber amplifiers may be enhanced by introducing a suitable dispersion tapering. We obtain an analytical dispersion profile that permits one to reduce pulse propagation in a varying dispersion fiber to the case of an equivalent fiber with constant parameters.
