Generation of a 160-GHz transform-limited pedestal-free pulse train through multiwave mixing compression of a dual-frequency beat signal.
2002
International audience; We report the experimental generation of a 160-GHz picosecond pulse train at 1550 nm, using multiple four-wave mixing temporal compression of an initial dual-frequency beat signal in the anomalous-dispersion regime of a nonzero dispersion-shifted fiber. Complete intensity and phase characterizations of the pulse train were carried out by means of a frequency-resolved optical gating technique, showing that 1.27-ps transform-limited pedestal-free Gaussian pulses were generated.
Tunable source of infrared pulses in gas-filled hollow core capillary
2020
International audience; We report a tunable source that generates pulses in the infrared from an optical parametric amplification in a gas-filled hollow core capillary based on four-wave mixing process, in which the phase matching strongly depends on the gas pressure and the pump. In our case, we have generated pulses from 1 to 1.6 m in the sub-µJ level together with a parametric amplification in the visible.
Simultaneous 2R regeneration of WDM signals in a single optical fibre
2009
Two experimental implementations of amplitude regeneration of WDM signals based on self-phase modulation (SPM) in optical fibres are discussed. The two examples differ in their approach of mitigation of inter-channel nonlinearities.
Generation of aperiodic picosecond pulses sequences from incoherent optical waves
2007
We present an original method to generate optical pulses trains with random time-interval values from incoherent broadband sources. Our technique relies on the remarkable properties of a line made of cascaded SPM-based optical regenerators.
Nonlinear optical fiber polarization tracking at 200 krad/s
2011
International audience; We demonstrate endless nonlinear polarization stabilization with a standard telecom fiber at a tracking speed of 200 krads/s. We provide a simple analytical estimate for the response time of nonlinear polarization control
Soliton generation and rogue-wave like behavior through fourth order modulation instability
2010
International audience; We numerically study the dynamics of ultra-broadband wavelength converters based on fourth-order scalar modulation instability. We report the spontaneous emergence of solitons and trapped radiation waves as well as L-shaped associated statistical signatures.
Numerical Maps for Fiber Lasers Mode Locked with Nonlinear Polarization Evolution: Comparison with Semi-Analytical Models
2008
We have used a fully vectorial model based on two coupled nonlinear Schrodinger equations to study mode locking and pulse generation initiated and stabilized by nonlinear polarization evolution in a stretched pulse, double-clad, Yb-doped, fiber laser. The model takes explicitly into account gain saturation, finite amplification bandwidth, Kerr-induced self- and cross-phase modulations, group velocity dispersion, polarization control, and linear birefringence. Complete maps versus the orientation of intra-cavity wave-plates have been established. They comprise a large variety of pulse regimes that can be simply obtained by turning the intracavity wave-plate: stable single pulse per round tri…
Nonlinear spectral compression in optical fiber: A new tool for processing degraded signals
2017
International audience; We propose two new applications of the spectral focusing by self-phase modulation that occurs in a nonlinear optical fiber. We numerically show the possibility of using nonlinear spectral compression to improve the optical signal to noise ratio and mitigate the amplitude jitter of the signal pulses. We also demonstrate experimentally that use of spectral focusing in a combination with an external sinusoidal phase modulation achieves efficient suppression of coherent spectral background.
Pulse timing effects in bulk Er/Yb codoped diode-pumped eyesafe lasers
2007
In this work, diode-pumping with appropriately modulated pulses is used to expose subtle input / output pulse-timing characteristics of Er3+ /Yb3+ systems, study their relation to laser efficiency and demonstrate some unique laser-pulse timing behavior. Er+3/Yb+3 codoped glass and YAG laser-host materials with similar concentrations (optimized for eyesafe emission in the 1.6-mum region) were studied in the same diode-pumped setup, in similar resonator configurations and analogous operating conditions.
All-optical nonlinear simultaneous polarization and intensity regeneration of a 40-Gb/s telecommunication signal
2012
We experimentally report the simultaneous all-optical regeneration of the polarization state and the intensity profile of a 40 Gb/s Return-to-Zero telecommunication signal by means of Kerr effect occurring in a single segment of fiber.
