2022
The contribution analyzes Adriano Banchieri’s “La Pazzia Senile” (1598-59) both as a publishing product, following its genesis and fortune, and as a poetic-musical artifact, examining its compositional style and performative implications. An in-depth study is devoted in particular to the relationship between “La Pazzia Senile” and commedia dell'arte
50 ans de psychologie de la musique
2011
What makes us like music?
2009
Why do we like the music we like and why do different people like different kinds of music? Existing models try to explain music preference as an interplay of musical features, the characteristics of the listener, and the listening context. Hereby, they refer to short-term preference decisions for a given piece of music rather than to the question why we listen to music at all and why we select a particular musical style. In this paper, it is hypothesized that the motivation for music listening and the liking for a particular kind of music depend on the functions that this music can fulfill for the listener. Thus, the relative contribution of these functions to the development of music pref…
Il fascino dell’intuizione femminile: Marie Trautmann (in Jaëll), pianista, pedagoga e ricercatrice
2020
Over the centuries, the differences between genders have led to strong disparities for the assertion of women’s artistic value. In the history of music, in particular, many women musicians did not get the right recognition because of a cultural context that could not enhance their work. This is the case of Marie Trautmann, better known as Marie Jaëll (1846-1925), wife of the Austrian concert pianist Alfred Jaëll (1832-1882). Trautmann is a 19th century woman-musician and an important figure in the history of music still to be discovered, not only for her activity as concert pianist, composer, pedagogue, but mainly for her empirical research work, which aimed at improving the piano technique…
Music Therapy as an Effective Intervention in the Treatment of of Depression in a Patient With Korsakoff's Syndrome
2013
The main aim of this study is to demonstrate the efficacy of the Music Therapy intervention and the possibility of influencing positively on depressive symptoms of a patient with this Syndrome making significant improvements in the general condition and in particular on the “activation versus apathy". The Music Therapy approach is mainly based on a sonorous music relationship between the patient and music therapist. Active Music Therapy facilitates the expressive process, increasing communicative-relational abilities and modulation and regulation of emotions. This approach is based on intersubjective psychological theories and allows “affect attunement” moments. After 24 sessions of Music T…
“Who’s Afraid of the Dark?”: The Ironic Self-Stereotype of the Ethnic Other in Finnish Rap Music
2017
Drawing on recent sociolinguistic work on globalization and superdiversity, this chapter explores the multisemiotic and ironic construction of the self-stereotype of the ethnic Other in a Finnish rap music video. Because Finland and Finnish hip-hop are still ethnically relatively homogeneous, people of migrant background, such as rap artist Musta Barbaari (Black Barbarian), need to negotiate their belonging in various ways. In the video, he deliberately constructs himself as the ethnicized and sexualized Other to highlight prejudice, discrimination and racism. In doing this, he voices societal critique and dissatisfaction – and speaks for multiculturalism and tolerance in (super)diversifyin…
The rise of music historiography in Italy in the second half of the 19th century: Between positivism and evolutionism
2009
We try to show that up to now scholars (following Westphal) have attributed too many parts of the ps.-plutarcheo tract "De musica" to Eraclide Pontico; the unknown author drew from the latter only what he says he read in Sicyon's inscription.

Fenomenologia della voce umana nella musica contemporanea
Musica humana
2011
