Method for monitoring vegetation ground covers
2020
A method to be used for the monitoring of vegetation surfaces is described, which includes the use of a device for measuring the spectral reflectance of vegetation using images acquired with a lightining system based on visible and infrared monoband LEDs and including devignetting, image cropping, radiometric calibration procedures and calculation of reflectance values and vegetation indices.

Dispositivo per il monitoraggio di superfici vegetali
2017
USING A.R.P. PROXIMAL SURVEY TO MAP CALCIC HORIZON DEPTH IN VINEYARDS
2012
The investigation of spatial variability of soil water retention capacity and depth is essential for a correct and economical planning of water supply of a vineyard. The advantage of measuring soil electrical properties by proximal sensors is the ability to operate with mobile and non-destructive tools, quicker than the traditional soil survey. A.R.P. (Automatic Resistivity Profiling) is a mobile soil electrical resistivity (ER) mapping system conceived by Geocarta (Paris, France), and it is comprised by a couple of transmitter sprocket-wheels, which inject current within the soil, and three couples of receiver sprocket-wheels, which measure the voltage-drop at three different depths, about…
Preserving Cultural Landscapes in South Africa: UAV Mapping of a Bokoni Archaeological Complex
2021
During the second year of the project “A social and spatial investigation at the Moxomatsi village”- Joint Mobility Projects: New Technologies for Social Science, ISARP 2018-20 - the work team of the University of Salerno (Department of Civil Engineering and Department of Cultural Heritage Sciences) was engaged in South Africa for the documentation of the Bokoni Archaeological Complex. Located in the present province of Mpumalanga, the Bokoni was a pre-colonial South African society, the research will be mainly focused on the study of agricultural settlements characterized by areas where densely walled settlements with roughly circular homesteads linked by walled roads are interspersed amon…
Changes in Onset of Vegetation Growth on Svalbard, 2000–2020
2022
The global temperature is increasing, and this is affecting the vegetation phenology in many parts of the world. The most prominent changes occur at northern latitudes such as our study area, which is Svalbard, located between 76°30′N and 80°50′N. A cloud-free time series of MODIS-NDVI data was processed. The dataset was interpolated to daily data during the 2000–2020 period with a 231.65 m pixel resolution. The onset of vegetation growth was mapped with a NDVI threshold method which corresponds well with a recent Sentinel-2 NDVI-based mapping of the onset of vegetation growth, which was in turn validated by a network of in-situ phenological data from time lapse cameras. The results show th…
Association between Asthma Control and Exposure to Greenness and Other Outdoor and Indoor Environmental Factors: A Longitudinal Study on a Cohort of …
2022
Achieving and maintaining asthma control (AC) is the main goal of asthma management. Indoor and outdoor environmental factors may play an important role on AC. The aim of this longitudinal study was to evaluate the association between AC and exposure to greenness and other outdoor or indoor environmental factors in a cohort of asthmatic children. This study involved 179 asthmatic children (5–16 years). Parents were interviewed through a modified version of the SIDRIA questionnaire. AC was assessed at each visit. Exposure to greenness was measured using the normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI). A logistic regression model was applied for assessing risk factors for uncontrolled…
Different trends of neighboring populations of Lesser Kestrel: Effects of climate and other environmental conditions
2019
The sensitivity of population trends to the climate and environment is generally considered a species-specific trait. However, evidence that populations may show different responses to the climate and environmental conditions is growing. Whether this differential sensitivity may arise even among neighboring populations remains elusive. We compared the trends of two neighboring populations of the Lesser Kestrel Falco naumanni, using data from a 12-year survey of 158 colonies in Sicily, Italy; the two populations inhabiting a lowland and an highland area, respectively. Population trends were modeled through the TRIM algorithms implemented in R (package rtrim). A reversed U-shaped population t…
SMOS-IC: An Alternative SMOS Soil Moisture and Vegetation Optical Depth Product
2017
© 2017 by the authors. The main goal of the Soil Moisture and Ocean Salinity (SMOS) mission over land surfaces is the production of global maps of soil moisture (SM) and vegetation optical depth (τ) based on multi-angular brightness temperature (TB) measurements at L-band. The operational SMOS Level 2 and Level 3 soil moisture algorithms account for different surface effects, such as vegetation opacity and soil roughness at 4 km resolution, in order to produce global retrievals of SM and τ. In this study, we present an alternative SMOS product that was developed by INRA (Institut National de la Recherche Agronomique) and CESBIO (Centre d'Etudes Spatiales de la BIOsphère). One of the main go…
