Reinforcing effect of carbon nanotubes (CNT) on polymer nanocomposites – A numerical-analytical study

A mixed model, numerical-analytical, is presented that allows one to predict the elastic properties of carbon nanotube (CNT)/polymer composites containing a random distribution of CNTs, while taking account of the curvature that they show when immersed in the polymer. This hybrid approach is a significant advance over micromechanical modeling and can be applied to all nanostructured composites.

Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) can be metallic or semiconductors depending simply on geometric characteristics [e.g., 1]. This peculiar electronic behavior, combined with high mechanical strength, make them potential building blocks of a new nano-electronic technology. Most discussions of the electronic structure of CNTs assume perfect cylindrical symmetry, but this is somewhat of an oversimplification. High resolution images of CNTs often disclose structural deformations such as bent, twisted, or collapsed tubes. Wet electrospinning-aided self-assembly of multifunctional GO-CNT@PCL core-shell nanocomposites with spider leg bioinspired hierarchical architectures

We report a fast route enabling the multiscale design of nanohybrid structures comprising a 3D fibrous network of polycaprolactone (PCL) wrapped by graphene oxide (GO) sheets onto which carbon nanotube (CNT) brushes are anchored. The method relies on electrospinning PCL solutions onto a suspension of GO and CNTs in ethanol. Self-assembly is due to electrostatic wrapping of GO sheets around PCL fibers and 7C-7C stacking between GO and CNTs. Nanocarbon broadband analysis, temperature dependent dielectric properties and percolation thresholds

The results of a broadband dielectric investigation of multi-walled CNT (MWCNT)/epoxy resin composites in wide temperature range from room temperature to 450 K are reported. Far below the percolation threshold (0.25 wt% MWCNT) the dielectric properties of the composite are mostly determined by alpha relaxation in pure polymer matrix. Close to the percolation threshold the composite shows the negative temperature coefficient (NTC) effect in the temperature region, where the pure polymer matrix becomes conductive.
