"Ute i naturen lever jeg!" : pasienters opplevelser med natur i spesialisert nevrologisk rehabilitering
2013
Masteroppgave i helsefag ME 518 Universitetet i Agder 2013 Background: A holistic approach dominates when it comes to rehabilitation. The patient’s priorities and involvement are crucial to the quality of life, the ability for the patient to succeed and his or her feel of coherence. Research indicates that outdoor activities can have positive effects on physical, psychological sociable and spiritual levels. However, more research is needed regarding what specific designs of treatment are being carried out and how the different groups of patients respond to these. Purpose and thesis: This paper will try to establish an insight into how patients with neurological diseases perceive outdoor tre…
The helminth community of the wood mouse Apodemus sylvaticus in a Mediterranean ecosystem in regeneration ten years after a wildfire.
2009
AbstractThis study was carried out 10 years after a wildfire in the Spanish Serra Calderona Natural Park, following a previous analysis comprising the first 5 years after the fire. Its primary aim was to elucidate the impact of this perturbation on the population biology of the wood mouseApodemus sylvaticus, and the repercussions on its helminth community in this regenerating Mediterranean ecosystem. Second, confirmation of the ability of the parasites to tolerate environmental stressors and the effects on their transmission strategies was sought. Five hundred and sixty-four individuals ofA. sylvaticuswere studied in a 9-year period, from the second to the tenth post-fire year: 408 mice fro…
Réécriture et reformulation des topiques descriptifs du ġazal homoérotique dans le Nasīm al-ṣabā (La brise du vent d’est) d’Ibn Ḥabīb al-Ḥalabī (m. 1…
2023
In his work entitled Nasīm al-ṣabā (The Breeze of the East Wind), Ibn Ḥabīb al-Ḥalabī (d. 1377) dedicates a chapter to the description of a young man (ġulām). This chapter is characterized by the presence of two parts which differ from a stylistic point of view. This paper deals with the central part of the chapter, which is entirely descriptive. The description of the ephebe in this central part shows great detail both descriptively (regarding the physical features of the ephebe) and thematically (regarding the topics used). In this part, the descriptive topics of the ephebe present in the classical homoerotic ġazal are transposed and reformulated in saǧ‘ (rhymed prose). A salient feature …
Legal questions on financial market abuse
2015
Purpose – The purpose of this study is to underline the impact that globalization of financial markets has on national punishment policies. The US financial crisis has strongly affected consumers’ lives, but the focus of this research is on the national provisions against the illegal and unfair behaviour of economic actors, with special regard to a phenomenon that took place abroad, but whose effects came to light in many different countries. Design/methodology/approach – Different methodological approaches, both deductive and inductive, are combined in the present paper, together with comparative and philosophical insights on national Court decisions and scholar writings. Findings – As Eu…
Effects of human disturbance on cave-nesting seabirds: The case of the storm petrel
2015
We tested the effects of human disturbance in two sub-colonies of Mediterranean storm petrel. We conducted three experiments to measure the capacity of the storm petrels to respond to stress. The part of the colony exposed to human disturbance resulted to be habituated and did not show chronic stress related to anthropogenic disturbance.
Spatial Distribution and Abundance of Mesopelagic Fish Biomass in the Mediterranean Sea
2020
Mesopelagic fish, being in the middle of the trophic web, are important key species for the marine environment; yet limited knowledge exists about their biology and abundance. This is particularly true in the Mediterranean Sea where no regional assessment is currently undertaken regarding their biomass and/or distribution. This study evaluates spatial and temporal patterns of mesopelagic fish biomass in the 1994–2011 period. We do that for the whole Mediterranean Sea using two well-established statistical models, the Generalized Additive Model (GAM) and Random Forest (RF). Results indicate that the bathymetry played an important role in the estimation of mesopelagic fish biomass and in its …
Unveiling the Relationship Between Sea Surface Hydrographic Patterns and Tuna Larval Distribution in the Central Mediterranean Sea
2021
Thunnus thynnus (Atlantic bluefin tuna, ABT) and other tuna species reproduce in the Mediterranean Sea during the summer period. Despite the Central Mediterranean Sea, the Strait of Sicily in particular, being a key spawning site for many tuna species, little is known on the effects of oceanographic variability on their larval distribution in this area. The abundance and presence-absence of larval specimens for three tuna species (ABT, bullet tuna and albacore) were modeled in order to examine their relationships with environmental factors, by analysing historical in situ information collected during seven annual surveys (2010–2016). The results revealed that most tuna larvae for the three …
Restoration practices in Mediterranean habitats using native woody species
2017
Since the beginning of the XXI century, Legambiente (a national environmental association), supported by the University of Palermo, has launched several naturalization projects within three Sicilian nature reserves: 1)Isola di Lampedusa (Agrigento Province); 2)Macalube di Aragona (Agrigento Province); 3)Lago Sfondato (Caltanissetta Province). Interventions were carried out on bare lands and degraded sites where natural vegetation cover was almost completely disappeared. The main aim was to restore native habitats following the principles of ecological restoration. Accordingly, differently from the classical approach, consisting in the use of preparatory species, usually Pines, native shrubs…
Superior Fischer-Tropsch performance of uniform cobalt nanoparticles deposited into mesoporous SiC
2020
Electrochemically-derived well-crystalline mesoporous silicon carbide (pSiC) was used as a host for cobalt nanoparticles to demonstrate superior catalytic performance during the CO hydrogenation according to Fischer-Tropsch. Colloidal Co nanoparticles (9 ± 0.4 nm) were prepared independently using colloidal recipes before incorporating them into pSiC and, for comparison purposes, into commercially available silica (Davisil) as well as foam-like MCF-17 supports. The Co/pSiC catalyst demonstrated the highest (per unit mass) catalytic activity of 117 µmol.g(CO)-1.g-1(Co).s-1 at 220 °C which was larger by about one order of magnitude as compared to both silica supported cobalt catalysts. Furthe…
