La Périodisation du Campaniforme dans le Midi. Jean Guilaine avait raison.

2003

2006

The mediterranean France final Neolithic, between the end of Middle Neolithic Chasséen (3700-3500 Cal BC) and the end of the transitional period to the early Bronze Age, with the barbed Wire groups (1900-1800 Cal BC), is a complex period marked by the definition of almost about fifteen cultural groups and many of geographical facies and chronological phases. The chronological and technical concepts used are not less complex and varied according to researchers (Recent Neolithic or late Middle Neolithic or Final Neolithic 1, Final Neolithic and Copper Age or only Final Neolithic, and Copper Age-early Bronze Age...). If the Rhone constituted only seldom a real border during the Neolithic, it i…

2012

The region of Morvan, in particular the granitic massif, forms a very large geographic area of which the prehistoric remains largely unknown. The situation regarding the zone lying between Morvan massif and the adjacent Serein, Arroux, A leine and Yonne valleys is very different. The lithic industry of several sites in Upper Morvan has demonstrated a first inhabitation during the Mesolithic and several hill sites occupied from the Middle Neolithic and during the Final Neolithic, including a probable enclosure on Mont Beuvray. Complementary studies in the A rroux Valley confirm a large expansion of the habitat and the erection of menhirs during the Middle Neolithic. Discoveries relating to t…

Le site néolithique final de la Bastide Blanche (Peyrolles-en-Provence, Bouches-du-Rhône) : Premiers résultats 2003-2004

2006

The Bastide Blanche (Peyrolles-en-Provence, Bouches-du-Rhône) is a small settlement perched in edge of the Durance where the principal occupation is ascribable to the extreme end of the Neolithic era. Recognized in the past, it was the subject of multiple excavations but of any study nor of any specific publication. A survey campaign and a first excavation campaign programmed in 2003 and 2004 make it possible today to specify the homogeneity of the assemblies often mentioned in the scientific literature. Beyond the first description of the structures and archaeological furniture put at the day, this short note makes it possible to announce the existence of a sequence for the Rhone-Ouvèze gr…

2001

Recent Bell Beakers artefacts in the southeast of France (« Rhodano-Provençal group ») were found in different types of sites. Those can be distinguished on the basis of the artefacts (number of ornamented ware, origin of domestic pottery) as well as their topographical location (high position or plain sites). The correlation between these data indicates a geography whose significance is open to discussion.

Campaniformes et cultures locales en France méditerranéenne

2006

Since the 1998 Riva del Garda conference and the synthesis coordinated by J Guilaine (2001), the new bell beakers archaeological data of Mediterranean France make it possible to specify the relations between the Bell Beakers ones and indigenous populations of the final Neolithic in this area. The phase of synchrony between Bell Beakers and local cultures, highlighted for the Early Bell Beakers between 2500 and 2400 before our era, can undoubtedly be wide at the first times, at least, development of the regional groups of recent bell beakers ("Rhodano- Provençal" and "Pyrénéen"). In parallel, differences in relations between these Bell beakers and the indigenous populations can be supposed i…

2009

The collective work carried out since 2001 within the framework of a Programme Collectif de Recherche (PCR) on the Late Neolithic and the beginning of the Bronze Age in the central part of northern France leads today to a new periodisation in 8 stages for the period between 3600 and 1800 BC. Although several gaps remain, particularly for the transitions between the Middle Neolithic and the Late Neolithic on one hand and between the Late Neolithic and the Final Neolithic on the other hand, this more precise chronological frame allows to synchronize the main stages of the central part of northern France with those of the nearby regions, to propose a more dynamic vision of cultural phenomena.
