SOIL MICROBIOLOGICAL QUALITY: STATE OF THE ART AND IMPORTANCE OF MICROBIAL COMMUNITIES FOR FRENCH AGRICULTURAL SOILS

2022

Soils are one of the major reservoirs of biological diversity on our planet, hosting a huge diversity of microorganisms. Numerous studies have demonstrated the role of microbial diversity in soil functions, such as nutrient cycling or pathogen management. Given the key role of soil microorganisms in the regulation of soil ecosystem functions, the environmental factors driving soil microbial diversity need to be understood. In France, we have the opportunity to benefit from a national soil survey (called the French Soil Quality Monitoring Network), which represents one of the most extensive and without a priori soil sampling survey available to date. Through several funded projects, we were …

Mapping, understanding and predicting soil microbial diversity across France

2018

International audience; Microorganisms are extremely abundant and diverse in soils. Their huge diversity is central in soil functioning regarding the diversity of functions it supports (mineralization, detoxification, stability of soil…) and is more and more studied, especially in a context of increasing pressure on soil resources. Conversely to macroorganisms whose distribution on a wide scale has been studied for over a century, spatial scaling and determinism distribution of soil microorganisms on nationwide scale still needs to be documented, notably to decipher the environmental filters shaping these communities. communities were investigated at the scale of France to characterize thei…

Conditions atmosphériques associées aux chutes de grêles en Bourgogne.

2020

A network of 96 hail pads is installed in Burgundy since 2014. Hailfalls in this part of France are mainly recorded from Avril to September and usually at the end of the afternoon when the surface air has been warmed enough to trigger an upward lift. Atmospherically speaking, hailfalls in Burgundy are associated with southward winds blowing from the Mediterranean Sea (Gulf of Lions) according to a strong negative barometric anomaly centered over Germany and extended southwestward until the south of Spain. A weak northwestward wind is at the same time also blowing until the northern part of Burgundy creating a thermal air-mass conflict and therefore a convective available potential energy wh…

LXR, prostate cancer and cholesterol: the Good, the Bad and the Ugly.

2012

International audience; Cholesterol is a fundamental molecule for life. Located in the cell membrane, this sterol participates to the cell signaling of growth factors. Inside the cell it can be converted in hormones such as androgens or modulate the immune response. Such important functions could not be solely dependent of external supply by diet hence de novo synthesis could occur from acetate in almost all mammalian cells. If a deficiency in cholesterol sourcing leads to development troubles, overstocking has been associated to various diseases such as atherosclerosis and cancers. Cholesterol homeostasis should thus be tightly regulated at the uptake, de novo synthesis, storage and export…

Biotic homogenisation in bird communities leads to large‐scale changes in species associations

2021

The impact of global change on biodiversity is commonly assessed in terms of changes in species distributions, community richness and community composition. Whether and how much associations between species are also changing is much less documented. In this study, we quantify changes in large-scale patterns of species associations in bird communities in relation to changes in species composition. We use network approaches to build three community-aggregated indices reflecting complementary aspects of species association networks. We characterise the spatio–temporal dynamics of these indices using a large-scale and high-resolution dataset of bird co-abundances of 109 species monitored for 17…
