Observability of the Neutrino Charge Radius

2002

It is shown that the probe-independent charge radius of the neutrino is a physical observable; as such, it may be extracted from experiment, at least in principle. This is accomplished by expressing a set of experimental ${\ensuremath{\nu}}_{\ensuremath{\mu}}\mathrm{\text{\ensuremath{-}}}e$ cross sections in terms of the finite charge radius and two additional gauge- and renormalization-group-invariant quantities, corresponding to the electroweak effective charge and mixing angle.

Resurrection of large lepton number asymmetries from neutrino flavor oscillations

2016

We numerically solve the evolution equations of neutrino three-flavor density matrices, and show that, even if neutrino oscillations mix neutrino flavors, large lepton number asymmetries are still allowed in certain limits by Big Bang Nucleosynthesis (BBN).

A Monochromatic Neutrino Beam to Obtain U(e3) and the CP Phase

2007

The goal for future neutrino facilities is the determination of the [Ue3] mixing and CP violation in neutrino oscillations. This will require precision experiments with a very intense neutrino source. The future experiments such as T2K, NOVA and Double CHOOZ will measure the [Ue3] mixing. In order to explore CP violation, we present a novel method to create a monochromatic neutrino beam based on the recent discovery of nuclei that decay fast through electron capture in a superallowed Gamow-Teller transition. The boost of such radioactive ions will generate an intense monochromatic directional neutrino beam when decaying at high energy in a storage ring with long straight sections. We show t…

Constraints on neutrino speed, weak equivalence principle violation, Lorentz invariance violation, and dual lensing from the first high-energy astrop…

2019

We derive stringent constraints on neutrino speed, weak equivalence principle violation, Lorentz invariance violation, and dual lensing from the first high-energy astrophysical neutrino source: TXS $0506+056$. Observation of neutrino (IceCube-170922A) and photons in a similar time frame and from the same direction is used to derive these limits. We describe ways in which these constraints can be further improved by orders of magnitude.

Search for heavy neutrinos at the NA48/2 and NA62 experiments at CERN

2018

© The Authors, published by EDP Sciences. The NA48/2 experiment at CERN has collected large samples of charged kaons decaying into a pion and two muons for the search of heavy nuetrinos. In addition, its successor NA62 has set new limits on the rate of charged kaon decay into a heavy neutral lepton (HNL) and a lepton, with = e, µ, using the data collected in 2007 and 2015. New limits on heavy neutrinos from kaon decays into pions, muons and positrons are presented in this report.

Constraining neutrino magnetic moment with solar and reactor neutrino data

2004

We use solar neutrino data to derive stringent bounds on Majorana neutrino transition moments (TMs). Such moments, if present, would contribute to the neutrino-electron scattering cross section and hence alter the signal observed in Super-Kamiokande. Using the latest solar neutrino data, combined with the results of the reactor experiment KamLAND, we perform a simultaneous fit of the oscillation parameters and TMs. Furthermore, we include data from the reactor experiments Rovno, TEXONO and MUNU in our analysis, improving significantly the current constraints on TMs. A comparison with previous works shows that our bounds are the strongest and most general results presented up to now. Finally…

Constraining the neutrino magnetic moment with anti-neutrinos from the Sun

2003

We discuss the impact of different solar neutrino data on the spin-flavor-precession (SFP) mechanism of neutrino conversion. We find that, although detailed solar rates and spectra allow the SFP solution as a sub-leading effect, the recent KamLAND constraint on the solar antineutrino flux places stronger constraints to this mechanism. Moreover, we show that for the case of random magnetic fields inside the Sun, one obtains a more stringent constraint on the neutrino magnetic moment down to the level of \mu_\nu \lsim few \times 10^{-12}\mu_B, similar to bounds obtained from star cooling.

Neutrinos from the primary proton–proton fusion process in the Sun

2014

International audience; In the core of the Sun, energy is released through sequences of nuclear reactions that convert hydrogen into helium. The primary reaction is thought to be the fusion of two protons with the emission of a low-energy neutrino. These so-called pp neutrinos constitute nearly the entirety of the solar neutrino flux, vastly outnumbering those emitted in the reactions that follow. Although solar neutrinos from secondary processes have been observed, proving the nuclear origin of the Sun's energy and contributing to the discovery of neutrino oscillations, those from proton-proton fusion have hitherto eluded direct detection. Here we report spectral observations of pp neutrin…

Measurement of double-differential muon neutrino charged-current interactions onC8H8without pions in the final state using the T2K off-axis beam

2016

We report the measurement of muon neutrino charged-current interactions on carbon without pions in the final state at the T2K beam energy using 5.734×1020 protons on target. For the first time the measurement is reported as a flux-integrated, double-differential cross section in muon kinematic variables (cosθμ, pμ), without correcting for events where a pion is produced and then absorbed by final state interactions. Two analyses are performed with different selections, background evaluations and cross-section extraction methods to demonstrate the robustness of the results against biases due to model-dependent assumptions. The measurements compare favorably with recent models which include n…
