Analytical properties of horizontal visibility graphs in the Feigenbaum scenario

Time series are proficiently converted into graphs via the horizontal visibility (HV) algorithm, which prompts interest in its capability for capturing the nature of different classes of series in a network context. We have recently shown [1] that dynamical systems can be studied from a novel perspective via the use of this method. Specifically, the period-doubling and band-splitting attractor cascades that characterize unimodal maps transform into families of graphs that turn out to be independent of map nonlinearity or other particulars. Time operators, innovations and approximations

Abstract We present a new approach to the spectral analysis and prediction of such complex systems for which the time evolution is described by a semigroup of operators. This approach is based on an extended concept of time operator and can be interpreted as a shift representation of dynamical systems. The time operator method includes the multiresolution analysis of wavelets as a particular case but can also be applied for a substantially larger class of dynamical systems. No linealidad y asimetría en el proceso generador del Índice Ibex35

This paper analyzes the behavior of Ibex35 from January 1999 to December 2001, in order to check if it follows a different process from random walk so its return is not a white noise and it can be predictable, against the efficient market hypothesis. For that, a nonlinear generating process of return will be considered and a STAR-APARCH model will be specified. This model allows a nonlinear behavior in the conditional mean and in the conditional variance. The use of the spin dependent part of the nuclear scattering length gives access to neutron scattering to the field of nuclear magnetism. This paper presents the theoretical and experimental background for such experiments. The available results on nuclear order will be reviewed and put if possible in the larger frame of many body physics. The possibilities of using nuclear magnetism for new applications or the improvement of scattering techniques will be stressed as well.

Experimental investigation of low-frequency pulsed Lorentz force influence on the motion of Galinstan melt

Abstract The paper presents the results of the numerical and physical experiments, aimed at assessing the influence of pulsed force of electromagnetic field on the melt motion and the fluid velocities. The experiment was performed on the eutectic alloy Galinstan in the cylindrical volume, where an ultrasonic Doppler velocimeter was employed for velocity measurements under conditions of pulsed and steady EM field application. A numerical simulation of the melt flow, forced by the steady EM force, involved a 2D axisymmetric model. The k-e turbulence model was used to obtain the information about the melt velocities. Exact solution of generalized Tavis - Cummings models in quantum optics

Quantum inverse methods are developed for the exact solution of models which describe N two-level atoms interacting with one mode of the quantized electromagnetic field containing an arbitrary number of excitations M. Either a Kerr-type nonlinearity or a Stark-shift term can be included in the model, and it is shown that these two cases can be mapped from one to the other. The method of solution provides a general framework within which many related problems can similarly be solved. Explicit formulae are given for the Rabi splitting of the models for some N and M, on- and off-resonance. Linear and nonlinear optical properties of a series of Ni-dithiolene derivatives

Some linear and nonlinear optical (NLO) properties of Ni(SCH)4 and several of its derivatives have been computed by employing a series of basis sets and a hierarchy of methods (e.g., HF, DFT, coupled cluster, and multiconfigurational techniques). The electronic structure of Ni(SCH)4 has been also analyzed by using CASSCF/CASPT2, ab initio valence bond, and DFT methods. In particular we discuss how the diradicaloid character (DC) of Ni(SCH)4 significantly affects its NLO properties. The quasidegeneracy of the two lowest-energy singlet states 1 mathg and 1 math1u, the clear DC nature of the former, and the very large number of low-lying states enhance the NLO properties values. Least energy solutions to the Dirichlet problem for the equation −D(u) = f (x, u)

Let be a bounded smooth domain in RN. We prove a general existence result of least energy solutions and least energy nodal ones for the problem −u = f(x, u) in u = 0 on ∂ (P) where f is a Carathéodory function. Our result includes some previous results related to special cases of f . Finally, we propose some open questions concerning the global minima of the restriction on the Nehari manifold of the energy functional associated with (P) when the nonlinearity is of the type f(x, u) = λ|u| s−2u − μ|u| r−2u, with s, r ∈ (1, 2) and λ,μ > 0.

Nonlinear analysis of cylindrical and conical hysteretic whirl motions in rotor-dynamics

Abstract The internal friction of a rotor–shaft-support system is mainly due to the shaft structural hysteresis and to some possible shrink-fit release of the assembly. The experimentation points out the destabilizing effect of the internal friction in the over-critical rotor running. Nevertheless, this detrimental influence may be efficiently counterbalanced by other external dissipative sources located in the supports or by a proper anisotropic configuration of the support stiffness.
