To produce a Finnish version of the Dynamic Gait Index (DGI) and establish its reliability in people with neurological disorders affecting balance.A consecutive sample of 33 participants in inter-rater and 30 participants in intra-rater sample were tested. The DGI was administered in two testing sessions 1-2 h apart. Symptomatic remission in schizophrenia patients: relationship with social functioning, quality of life, and neurocognitive performance.

Abstract Purpose To investigate whether symptomatic remission relates to better outcomes in schizophrenia. Methods Seventy-six schizophrenia patients were assessed using measures of cross-sectional symptomatic remission, social functioning, subjective quality of life (QoL), and cognition. Results Most patients (53; 69.7%) were not in remission. Remitted patients presented significantly better social functioning, better self-reported QoL, insight, and lower levels of depressive symptoms. They also showed a non-significant trend for better executive function, processing speed and verbal memory. Comparing the results of a cholesterol and saturated fat screener when using two different scores.

Screener are useful instruments for categorising individuals according to their nutrient intake. To accurately classify the individuals it is important to correctly analyse the screener. Therefore we compared a simple and a weighed score of a cholesterol and saturated fat (SF) screener with the cholesterol and SF intake, respectively, calculated from an extensive food frequency questionnaire. The validation results did not change when a weighed score was used instead of the simple one, indicating that a simple score does not introduce a higher amount of misclassification.

To evaluate clinical effectiveness and safety of 2 different detoxification treatment protocols, a chart analysis of hospital inpatients consecutively admitted for alcohol withdrawal during one year was undertaken. Records of 33 patients receiving symptom-triggered treatment (using a modified version of the revised Clinical Institute Withdrawal Assessment for Alcohol Scale) were compared with those of patients treated by applying a fixed-dose regimen (n = 32). The aim of this study is to evaluate the potential effect of acupuncture on “in vivo” variations in oral microcirculation in healthy subjects. Methods An exploratory study was conducted on 40 healthy subjects: 20 cases (mean 55.90, SD 16.04) and 20 controls (mean 51, SD 11.91). Acute and chronic administration of ethanol leads to alterations of the adenylyl cyclase (AC) signal transduction pathway. This study examined whether the formation of cAMP by AC in lymphocytes correlates with age in alcoholic patients and in healthy controls.
