Instabilities of concentration stripe patterns in ferrocolloids
1999
Equations describing the kinetics of the phase separation in ferrocolloids in a Hele-Shaw cell under the action of a rotating magnetic field are proposed. Numerical simulation on the basis of a pseudospectral technique demonstrates that upon the action of a rotating field on a magnetic colloid which undergoes the phase separation a periodical system of stripes parallel to the plane of a rotating magnetic field stripes is created. The period of a structure found numerically satisfactorily corresponds to the one calculated on the basis of the energy minimum. Thus, the undulation instability leading to the formation of chevron structures takes place if the tangential component of a rotating ma…
Longitudinal counterflow in turbulent liquid helium: velocity profile of the normal component
2013
In this paper, the velocity profile of the normal component in the stationary flow of turbulent superfluid helium inside a cylindrical channel is determined, making use of a one-fluid model with internal variables derived from Extended Thermodynamics. In the hypothesis of null barycentric velocity of the fluid (the so-called counterflow situation) it is seen that, in the presence of a sufficiently high vortex length density, the velocity profile of the normal component becomes very flat in the central region of the channel. Thus, a central flat profile of the normal fluid does not necessarily imply that the flow of the normal component is turbulent.

Administration of recombinant human erythropoietin (rHuEpo) improves performance and hence is subject to abuse by athletes. The detection of rHuEpo doping remains a major challenge at present. The aim of the current study was to investigate whether circulating microRNA (miRNA) can be used for detecting r-HuEpo doping. Twenty trained males received rHuEpo injections of 50 IU∙kg -1 body mass every two days for 4 weeks. Blood was obtained 2 weeks before, during and 4 weeks after administration. For this pilot analysis, plasma miRNA expression was assessed at selected time points using the Affymetrix GeneChip 3.0 and the miScript 384 HC PCR Array (Qiagen). For the Affymetrix microarray data, GC…

Regularization of perturbed state-dependent sweeping processes with nonregular sets
2018
International audience; In this paper, we prove the convergence strongly pointwisely (up to a subsequence) of Moreau-Yosida regularization of perturbed state-dependent sweeping process with nonregular (subsmooth and positively alpha-far) sets in separable Hilbert spaces. Some relevant consequences are indicated.
A new capability index for dynamic process analysis
2013
Nowadays, the trend to produce with reduced specification limits width and at a low defectives rate seems to be irreversible. In such conditions, reliable evaluation of the process capability level represents a crucial activity to assess the quality related performance of a production process. By adopting the classical approach, such evaluation is performed by verifying the process in-control condition and by evaluating suitable capability indices. However, considering the natural dynamic behavior of production processes, i.e. the process variability over the time domain, the in-control condition characterizes only a part of the production process functioning cycle, the one with the lowest …
Syntaxin13 expression is regulated by mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) in injured neurons to promote axon regeneration.
2014
Injured peripheral neurons successfully activate intrinsic signaling pathways to enable axon regeneration. We have previously shown that dorsal root ganglia (DRG) neurons activate the mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) pathway following injury and that this activity enhances their axon growth capacity. mTOR plays a critical role in protein synthesis, but the mTOR-dependent proteins enhancing the regenerative capacity of DRG neurons remain unknown. To identify proteins whose expression is regulated by injury in an mTOR-dependent manner, we analyzed the protein composition of DRGs from mice in which we genetically activated mTOR and from mice with or without a prior nerve injury. Quantitati…
Generically split projective homogeneous varieties. II
2012
AbstractThis article gives a complete classification of generically split projective homogeneous varieties. This project was begun in our previous article [PS10], but here we remove all restrictions on the characteristic of the base field, give a new uniform proof that works in all cases and in particular includes the case PGO2n+ which was missing in [PS10].
Harnack and Shmul'yan pre-order relations for Hilbert space contractions
2015
We study the behavior of some classes of Hilbert space contractions with respect to Harnack and Shmul'yan pre-orders and the corresponding equivalence relations. We give some conditions under which the Harnack equivalence of two given contractions is equivalent to their Shmul'yan equivalence and to the existence of an arc joining the two contractions in the class of operator-valued contractive analytic functions on the unit disc. We apply some of these results to quasi-isometries and quasi-normal contractions, as well as to partial isometries for which we show that their Harnack and Shmul'yan parts coincide. We also discuss an extension, recently considered by S.~ter~Horst [\emph{J. Operato…
Integration on Surfaces
2012
We intend to study the integration of a differential k-form over a regular k-surface of class C 1 in \(\mathbb{R}^n\). To begin with, in Sect. 7.1, we undertake the integration over a portion of the surface that is contained in a coordinate neighborhood. Where possible, we will express the obtained results in terms of integration of vector fields. For example, we study the integral of a vector field on a portion of a regular surface in \(\mathbb{R}^3\) and also the integral over a portion of a hypersurface in \(\mathbb{R}^n\). In Sect. 7.3 we study the integration of differential k-forms on regular k-surfaces admitting a finite atlas. We discuss the need for the surface to be orientable so t…
