Genotype–phenotype correlation in a new Fabry-disease-causing mutation
2019
Background: Fabry disease (FD) is a rare X-linked inherited lysosomal storage disorder caused by α-galactosidase A deficiency leading to intracellular glycosphingolipid accumulation. FD manifestation is multisystem, and can differ depending on disease-related genetic variants. Currently, more than 700 different FD-causing mutations have been identified in the human GLA gene. We identified a novel mutation in a Lithuanian family with classical manifestations of Fabry disease, revealing severe effects to the cardiovascular systems of heterozygous women. Case presentation: A 49-year-old woman underwent echocardiography due to progressive dyspnea that lasted seven years, reduced physical a…

The official literary debut of Tomasz August Olizarowski - highly praised by the first critics - is considered to be a short book of poetry published in 1836 in Kraków, containing two verse novels: Zawerucha. Powieść ukraińska (Zawerucha. Ukrainian novel) and Bruno. Meanwhile, Kórnik Library Stores a booklet signed with the poets name containing two lyrical series of psalms and sonnets, as well as a dumka, probably published as early as 1832 in Lviv. It closes with a presentation of the poet’s returns to the issues and forms of his debut, sińce throug…
La fuga impossibile. Sulla narrativa di Maria Messina
2017

Leptin and Its Receptor are Overexpressed in Brain Tumors and Correlate with the Degree of Malignancy
2009
Although leptin and its receptor (ObR) have emerged as important cancer biomarkers, the role of the leptin system in brain tumor development remains unknown. We screened 87 human brain tumor biopsies using immunohistochemistry and detected leptin and ObR in 55.2% and 60.9% cases, respectively. In contrast, leptin and ObR were absent in 14 samples of normal brain tissue. The presence of leptin correlated with ObR with overall concordance 80.5%. The leptin/ObR system was highly expressed in glioblastomas and anaplastic astrocytomas, while lower expression of both markers was noted in low-grade astrocytomas and gangliogliomas. The association between leptin/ObR and the degree of tumor malignan…
"There Is No Book, No Matter How Bad It Is, That Does Not Have Something Good in It": The Circulation of the Novels by Sebastiano Erizzo and Niccolò …
2019
This paper provides a first consideration of the dissemination and impact of the novels by Sebastiano Erizzo and Niccolò Granucci in the Spanish Golden Age, focusing on two of their main works, Le sei giornate (1567) and La piacevol notte et lieto giorno (1574), respectively. The characteristics of the identified copies, some coincidences with texts by Lope and Cervantes, and the information collected on the circulation of these two works, whose focus on morality may have favoured their dissemination, lead to the suggestion that their novels had a certain influence on Spanish literature. These circumstances should encourage Hispanists to turn their eyes towards the novels of Niccolò Granucc…
