Collard greens (Brassica oleracea var. acephala) are a group of plants cultivated for its thick, slightly bitter, edible leaves. As other Brassicaceae, have a good nutritional value as they are a good sources of vitamin C and soluble fiber, and contain various compounds with potent anticancer properties. During the host location process, egg parasitoids can eavesdrop on chemical cues released from immature and adult hosts. These indirect host-related cues are highly detectable, but of low reliability because they lead egg parasitoid females to an area where oviposition is likely to occur rather then providing wasps with direct information on the presence of eggs and their location. Effect of a novel physical pretreatment process on the drying kinetics of seedless grapes

In this paper an alternative physical method for enhancing the drying rate of seedless grapes is proposed. It consists of the superficial abrasion of the grape peel using an inert abrasive material. The effectiveness of this novel process was compared to that of the traditional ethyl oleate dipping process by analysing not only their respective drying times, but also the peel surfaces by scanning electron microscopy. Moreover, the drying kinetics of the above two treatments was reconstructed by using a mathematical model in which the grape pretreatment used was assumed to affect the water diffusivity in the grape peel, but not in the grape pulp. Physical pre-treatment of plums (Prunus domestica). Part 1. Modelling the kinetics of drying

It consists of the superficial abrasion of the plums' peel using an inert abrasive material to remove the cuticular waxy layer, the limiting factor for moisture loss. The physical pre-treatment was compared with a chemical treatment in which the plums were dipped into a solution of ethyl oleate. The drying kinetics of the above samples, including the untreated one, were reconstructed by using a mathematical model. Binding of individual Bacillus thuringiensis Cry proteins to the olive moth Prays oleae (Lepidoptera: Yponomeutidae)

The microlepidopteran Prays oleae is one of the main insect pests causing significant crop losses in the Mediterranean olive groves. Bacillus thuringiensis based insecticides are being successfully used to minimize the impact of the second and third generations of this pest. However, because of its very small size and difficulty of rearing, very few studies have been carried out to determine the potency and mode of action of B. thuringiensis Cry proteins in this insect. Podsumowując panowanie Piastów oleśnicko-kozielskich w Koźlu, które trwało od 1357 do 1472 r., należy zauważyć, że ich wpływ na rozwój miasta należy widzieć na płaszczyźnie pozytywów i negatywów. Za pozytywne trzeba uznać następujące fakty: uczynili oni Koźle stolicą ich dziedzin Górnego Śląska i włączyli to miasto do swojej tytulatury; wystawili w nim kilka dokumentów dla ich górnośląskich poddanych; współpracowali z joannitami w Koźlu, co znacząco przyczyniło się do rozwoju kozielskiej parafii; w 1431 r. sprowadzili do niego także franciszkanów.

Control of Portulaca oleracea by boldo and lemon essential oils in different soils

Soil characteristics influence plant growth and can affect the phytotoxicity of the essential oils. In this study chemical composition and herbicidal activity of Peumus boldus Mol. and lemon essential oils in different growing medium against Portulaca oleracea L. was investigated. Ninety-four compounds accounting between 95.5 and 99.8% of the total essential oil were identified by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry in boldo and lemon essential oils.
