Fast and blister-free irradiation conditions for cross-linking of PMMA induced by 2MeV protons

For soft lithography, the conventional negative tone resists, such as SU-8, that are used to create the mold have a number of drawbacks. PMMA, which is normally used as a positive tone resist, can be used as a negative resist by using high-fluence irradiation conditions. In this report, we outline optimization of the irradiation conditions for PMMA thin films using 2MeV H^+ ions to exploit their ability to work as a negative tone resist at ion fluences above 1.0x10^1^5ionscm^-^2. A heuristic algorithm for project scheduling with splitting allowed

In this article, we analyze the precedence diagramming method, the only published algorithm for time-only project scheduling with activity splitting allowed. The criteria used in this method (forward and backward pass computations) for deciding when an activity has to be interrupted are shown to be invalid in some situations. We look into the causes of these failures and propose new formulae that always provide feasible solutions. The new algorithm has been tested on 240 randomly generated problems ranging up to 600 activities and 7,200 precedence relationships, resulting in an average deviation from optima of less than 1 percent.
Absolute measurement of quadratic nonlinearities from phase-matched second-harmonic generation in a single KTP crystal cut as a sphere

We determine within an accuracy of ∼10% the absolute magnitude of the quadratic effective coefficients of types I and II phase-matched second-harmonic generation from conversion efficiency measurements in a single nonlinear crystal cut as a sphere. The agreement is good with measurements performed in thin parallelepipedal samples. The material studied is KTiOPO4, for which improved Sellmeier equations are given.

On the basis of a set of boundary conditions describing quite generally mass and energy transport processes across the free surface of helium II, the acoustic coefficients of reflection, transmission, and transformation of first sound, second sound, and the sound wave propagating in the vapor are calculated in the case of perpendicular incidence of sound waves against the liquid-vapor phase boundary. Considering rigorously the influences of the Onsager surface coefficients, the isobaric thermal expansion coefficients, and the thermal conductivities of the liquid and the vapor, we derive sets of equations from which the acoustic coefficients are determined numerically. Light-induced transmission nonlinearities in gallium selenide

The intensity of a He–Ne laser (633 nm, 5 mW) transmitted by different GaSe samples is observed to change in correlation with a Nd-yttrium–aluminum–garnet laser pulse (532 nm, 7.8 ns, 3 mJ) which excites them. Such time response has been attributed to a nonlinear optical effect, i.e., a decrease in the refractive index due to the exciton screening by the photogenerated carriers. A calculation of the absorption coefficient and refractive index at different carrier concentrations has led to a reconstruction of transmittance transients which fully agree with the experimental data at different incident intensities and temperatures. Pressure dependence of the optical properties of wurtzite and rock-salt Zn1–xCoxO thin films

In this paper we investigate the electronic structure of Zn 1-x Co x O by means of optical absorption measurements under pressure. Thin films of Zn 1-x Co x O with different Co content (from 1 to 30%) were prepared by pulsed laser deposition on mica substrates. Absorption spectra exhibit three main features that are clearly correlated to the Co content in the films: (i) absorption peaks in the infrared associated to crystal-field-split internal transitions in the Co 3d shell, with very small pressure coefficients due to their atomic character; (ii) a broad absorption band below the fundamental edge associated to charge transfer transitions, that exhibit relatively large pressure coefficient…

In this work we study the fog attenuation in the visible and infrared spectral band related to Free Space Optics (FSO). Based on the Mie scattering theory, fog extinction coefficients for different particle size distributions as a function of wavelength were derived. A simple analytical model allowing the prediction of atmospheric transmission for the 0.69 - 1.55 µm spectral band was developed. This model is valid for advection and convection fog and for visibility range between 50 to 1000 m. This model, implemented into software developed at FT R&D, allows the prediction of the Quality of Service of FSO links. International audience; Methane and its tetrahedral isotopologues are spherical-top molecules whose high-resolution rovibrational spectra can only be analyzed in detail, thanks to sophisticated symmetry-adapted tensorial models. However, the effective Hamiltonian parameters of such models do not give direct access to the positions of the vibrational sublevels.
