Tässä artikkelissa kuvataan hyvinvoinnin tutkimuksen ajankohtaista yhteiskunnallista tarvetta sekä Jyväskylän ja Keski-Suomen vahvuuksia ja mahdollisuuksia monialaisen hyvinvoinnin tutkimuksen toimintaympäristönä. The introduction of women’s suffrage in 1906 and the election of the first female members to parliament made Finland an object of international attention. Contemporary cross-national comparisons were common, and there was a tendency to compete and evaluate each other. In Finland, many women activists and some male politicians, too, felt that they had to prove women’s political competence and hence actively communicated the experiences of women’s suffrage struggle internationally. Abroad, comparisons were exploited either to support women’s suffrage or to demonstrate its evil consequences, depending on party affiliation. Late Quaternary marine ostracods of the Basque Basin (S Bay of Biscay): taxonomy and distribution

Late Quaternary taxonomy and ecologic and age distributions of ostracods from the Basque Basin (S Bay of Biscay) are described. More than forty-four thousands ostracod specimens have been obtained from one hundred surface samples and core samples from six cores located in shelf and upper bathyal depths and other infrabathyal core as comparative deep reference. A total of 155 species have been taxonomically described, belonging to 67 genera. Most characteristic species (123) have been SEM figured, and ecologic-geographic distributions and ages have been provided for all species. The resulting database will be a useful help for palaeoceanographic and palaeoclimatologic studies of the region.

YLEISTEN KIELITUTKINTOJEN LAATIJOIDEN KÄSITYKSIÄ KIELESTÄ JA TEHTÄVIEN LAADINNASTA Jyväskylä: Soveltavan kielentutkimuksen keskus, Jyväskylän yliopisto 2012, Lisensiaattitutkielma. Tutkimuksessa tarkasteltiin yleisten kielitutkintojen laatijoiden käsityksiä kielestä ja heidän kokemuksiaan ja näkemyksiään tehtävien laadinnasta. Yleisissä kielitut-kinnoissa toimii jokaisessa yhdeksässä tutkintokielessä laatijatiimi, jossa työskentelee 3–10 laatijaa tutkintokielestä riippuen. Tensions between the people and parliament over representation are a normal feature of representative democracies. In this paper, we demonstrate how digital humanities analysis tools help in answering questions about the timing of debates on popular representation, tensions over its realization, and representatives’ changing perceptions on their parliamentary role. Our long-term approach to the conceptual history of political representation is based on the analysis of digitized parliamentary debates as nexuses of multi-sited political discourse. Role of hypogonadism in development of bone alterations in thalassemic patients

Although transfusions and chelation therapy have improved survival of patients afflicted with Thalassemia Major (TM), endocrine alterations are still common complications. Particularly, hypogonadism plays an important role in the aetiology of osteoporosis in these patients. It is clear that in most patients the gonadal failure is a consequence of a pituitary damage and that a hypogonadotropic hypogonadism occurs; nevertheless, also a gonadal damage because of iron deposition may be a further cause of hypogonadism.
