Low‐cost, High‐Capability, Embedded Systems for CNC Education and Research
2015
Teaching of CNC and CAD/CAM technologies has recently taken a great importance, due to their development, to the great number of solutions available on the market, and to the frequent updates. Nevertheless, one of the most urgent need is to improve the quality of education coping with a rapidly growing number of students. Nowadays, in comparison to the past, many Open-Source technical solutions, both hardware and software, are available to realise easily and cheaply some scaled-down prototypes of numerical control machine tools: these are able to work perfectly and can be employed as a learning method. This paper shows some past experiences regarding the development of some degree thesis wo…
UN SIT PER IL PPE DEL CENTRO STORICO DI PALERMO: IL CASO STUDIO DEL MANDAMENTO CASTELLAMMARE
2015
In this work a Geographic Information System was realised at the service of municipal administration of Palermo, to integrate, manage and store city plan information regarding the urban district Castellammare whereof detailed executive plan of inner city, correlating basic cartography, current urban instrument, cadastral cartography, current restriction schemes, monumental and historical monuments, street numbers and street network. Quantum GIS vers. 1.8 of Free and Open-Source Software (FOSS) community was exclusively utilized to the fulfilment of GIS. To the experimentation and the fulfilment of WebGIS a free server was used in cloud on the Amazon, where a virtual machine, based on MapSer…
In this article is cheked information about two bell beaker sites from Vinalopo Valley –Peñón de la Zorra and Puntal de los Carniceros–. The importance of this archaeological sites of investigation concerning Levante areas have got that these places would be an obligatory reference since the publication by J.M. Soler Garcia.
Regulation of human inducible nitric oxide synthase expression by an upstream open reading frame.
2019
Abstract The human inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) gene contains an upstream open reading frame (uORF) in its 5′-untranslated region (5′-UTR) implying a translational regulation of iNOS expression. Transfection experiments in human DLD-1 cells revealed that the uORF although translatable seems not to inhibit the translation start at the bona fide ATG. Our data clearly show that human iNOS translation is cap-dependent and that the 5′-UTR of the iNOS mRNA contains no internal ribosome entry site. Translation of the bona fide coding sequence is most likely mediated by a leaky scanning mechanism. The 5′-UTR is encoded by exon 1 and exon 2 of the iNOS gene with the uORF stop codon located…
CO2 uptake of Opuntia ficus-indica (L.) Mill. whole trees and single cladodes, in relation to plant water status and cladode age
2013
Most of net photosynthesis determinations in Opuntia ficus-indica come from measurements on individual cladodes. However, they have limitations when used to scale up to whole canopy gas exchange, because a large variability of carbon assimilation may occur within the canopy, due to, among others, differences in cladode age and intercepted radiation or individual cladode response to abiotic stresses. The aim of this work was to evaluate the application of open gas exchange chambers, simultaneously applied around the whole canopy, to measure net CO 2 uptake, continuously over a 24 h period, in single Opuntia ficus-indica (L.) Mill. potted trees and in relation with their water status. Net CO2…
Eliminating Artificial Boundary Conditions in Time-Dependent Density Functional Theory Using Fourier Contour Deformation
2023
We present an efficient method for propagating the time-dependent Kohn-Sham equations in free space, based on the recently introduced Fourier contour deformation (FCD) approach. For potentials which are constant outside a bounded domain, FCD yields a high-order accurate numerical solution of the time-dependent Schrödinger equation directly in free space, without the need for artificial boundary conditions. Of the many existing artificial boundary condition schemes, FCD is most similar to an exact nonlocal transparent boundary condition, but it works directly on Cartesian grids in any dimension, and runs on top of the fast Fourier transform rather than fast algorithms for the application of …
Linear scaling exchange gradients for Hartree–Fock and hybrid density functional theory
2000
Abstract A new method is introduced which allows to form the exchange part of self-consistent field energy gradients in a way which scales linearly with molecular size for molecules with a non-vanishing HOMO–LUMO gap. This is not only important for Hartree–Fock but as well for the popular hybrid density functional theory methods. The method preserves the optimized integral-driven structure of conventional direct methods. Efficiency and scaling behavior of the new method are illustrated for DNA fragments.
Toward Livable City Centers. Hebron as a Case Study
2012
City centers of Palestinian cities face many urban planning problems; the downtown city is mostly crowded especially in the last few years, because of the increasing population of the cities and the daily migration of the residents from the nearby villages. Everyone can touch the traffic jam problem, the bad quality of urban spaces, the lack of gardens and open spaces in the city center. All this affects negatively the citizens of the city, feeling uncomfortable in the city center. Thus, this study comes to light to draw guidelines to create a comfortable and livable urban environment for people in the city center and to develop the city center to a more environmental, functional, beautiful…
Grapevine and wine metabolomics-based guidelines for fair data and metadata management
2021
In the era of big and omics data, good organization, management, and description of experimental data are crucial for achieving high-quality datasets. This, in turn, is essential for the export of robust results, to publish reliable papers, make data more easily available, and unlock the huge potential of data reuse. Lately, more and more journals now require authors to share data and metadata according to the FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) principles. This work aims to provide a step-by-step guideline for the FAIR data and metadata management specific to grapevine and wine science. In detail, the guidelines include recommendations for the organization of data and meta…
Relation between adaptive learning actions and profiles of MOOCs users
2016
The overcrowding and the heterogeneity of participants' profiles in a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) are some of the main causes for a high dropout rate. International reports and research works points out the personalized learning as an important way to improve learning in any educational context. The information and communication technologies help to address adaptive technics in education through online courses. The specific characteristics of MOOCs point to the need to implement adaptive methodologies in MOOCs to increase the completion rates. This work presents a statistical analysis to find out in what aspects the condition of adaptivity, defined by the construct, is a preference of…
