Quantifying, characterizing, and controlling information flow in ultracold atomic gases
2011
We study quantum information flow in a model comprising of an impurity qubit immersed in a Bose-Einstein condensed reservoir. We demonstrate how information flux between the qubit and the condensate can be manipulated by engineering the ultracold reservoir within experimentally realistic limits. We place a particular emphasis on non-Markovian dynamics, characterized by a reversed flow of information from the background gas to the qubit and identify a controllable crossover between Markovian and non-Markovian dynamics in the parameter space of the model.
Arts. 34-40 EIR
2016
The comments on Arts. 34-40 of EU Regulation 2015/848 deal with opening of secondary insolvency proceedings. These comments systematically tackle the prerequisites required for the opening of secondary insolvency proceedings, the relationship between main and secondary proceedings and the duties of cooperation that are put on the courts and the insolvency practitioners of both main and secondary proceedings. A particular attention is devoted to the introduction of the so-called “Undertaking to Avoid the Opening of Secondary Insolvency Proceedings” (Art. 36).
Analytic gradients for Mukherjee’s multireference coupled-cluster method using two-configurational self-consistent-field orbitals
2010
Analytic gradients for the state-specific multireference coupled-cluster method suggested by Mahapatra et al. [Mol. Phys. 94, 157 (1998)] (Mk-MRCC) are reported within the singles and doubles approximation using two-configurational self-consistent field (TCSCF) orbitals. The present implementation extends our previous work on Mk-MRCC gradients [E. Prochnow et al., J. Chem. Phys. 131, 064109 (2009)] which is based on restricted Hartree-Fock orbitals and consequently the main focus of the present paper is on the treatment of orbital relaxation at the TCSCF level using coupled-perturbed TCSCF theory. Geometry optimizations on m-arynes and nitrenes are presented to illustrate the influence of t…
The relaxant effects of cromakalim (BRL 34915) on human isolated airway smooth muscle
1992
Cromakalim (BRL 34915) is a potassium channel opener with therapeutic potential as a bronchodilator in asthma. Cromakalim (0.1–30 μmol/l) inhibited the spontaneous tone of human isolated bronchi n a concentration-related manner being nearly as effective as isoprenaline or theophylline. The order of relaxant potencies (expressed as -log10 IC50 mol/l; mean ±SEM) was isoprenaline (7.29 ± 0.27; n = 8) > cromakalim (5.89 ± 0.12; n = 7) > theophylline (4.07 ±0.13; n = 10). In human bronchi where tone had been raised by addition of histamine (0.1 mmol/l), acetylcholine (0.1 mmol/l) or leukotriene D4 (LTD4, 0.1 μmol/l), the relaxant effect of cromakalim was substantially reduced. Cromakalim suppres…
How do I rule my solver’s relationship? An empirical investigation of governance structures in crowdsourcing contests
2016
In order to continually innovate, companies are increasingly opening their boundaries and signing crowdsourcing agreements with solution providers. However, crowdsourcing scholars are no closer to understanding how possible solvers’ opportunistic behaviours affect the governance structure proposed by the seeker at the moment the challenge is broadcast. Building on the managerial-choice approach of transaction cost economics, we aim to examine how contract conditions, specified in the request for proposal (RFP), aiming to reduce the effect of solver’s opportunistic behaviours whilst influencing seekers’ preferences toward proposing contractual agreements to manage the working relationship wi…
An Open Innovation Decision Support System to Select a Biopharmaceutical R&D Portfolio
2016
Drugs available in the market today, selected several years ago under very uncertain future scenario, have experienced a long and expensive process of research and development carried out following both a closed and an open innovation path. To support this critical selection process, we propose a Decision Support System, able to choose among different candidates the most promising drugs along their best development path. The Decision Support System, based on a real options portfolio optimization model, mapping tools, and what-if rules as well, has been applied to a numerical example available in literature, and the research findings show interesting managerial and academic implications
Cascade complex formation by phosphate in the cobalt(II)/[30]aneN10 anaerobic system
1993
Abstract The interaction of phosphate with the mono- and binuclear cobalt(II) complexes of [30]aneN 10 (1,4,7,10,13,16,19,22,25,28-decaazacyclotriacontane) has been studied by potentiometry in 0.15 mol dm −3 NaClO 4 solution at 298.15 K under anaerobic conditions. The stable species [CoH 2 ([30]aneN 10 )PO 4 ] + , [CoH 4 ([30]aneN 10 )PO 4 ] 3+ , [Co 2 H([30]aneN 10 )PO 4 ] 2+ , [Co 2 H 2 ([30]aneN 10 )PO 4 ] 3+ and [Co 2 H 3 ([30]aneN 10 )PO 4 ] 4+ , where the phosphate anion is directly bound to the metal ions or acts as a second sphere ligand, are formed and their stability constants have been determined. The results obtained allowed for the selection of suitable conditions for the study…

Role of Negative Pressure Therapy as Damage Control in Soft Tissue Reconstruction for Open Tibial Fractures.
2017
AbstractThe concept of damage control orthopaedics (DCO) is a strategy that focuses on managing orthopaedic injuries in polytrauma patients who are in an unstable physiological state. The concept of DCO is an extension of damage control surgery or damage limitation surgery (DCS/DLS). Recently, it has become clear that certain patients, following extensive soft tissue trauma, could benefit from the idea of DCS. In the management of severe lower extremity trauma with exposed fracture sites, aggressive early wound excision debridement, early internal fixation, and vascularized wound coverage within a few days after trauma were proposed. A negative-pressure dressing can be easily and rapidly ap…
