Acute aortic dissection debut as STEMI: A case report

Abstract We submit a case report of a 66-year-old male, with hypertension and family history of cerebrovascular disease, who was referred to our department for right-inferior STEMI. According to the current ESC (European Society of Cardiology) guidelines for the management of STEMI, the patient was conducted to the cath lab to perform primary PCI. Despite the identification of the culprit lesion we had many difficulties during the procedure of angioplasty, so we decided to perform aortography that showed a Stanford type A acute aortic dissection involving the ostium of right coronary artery causing the right-inferior STEMI. The Impact of Pre-Operative Malperfusion on Outcome in Acute Type A Aortic Dissection

Abstract Background Malperfusion adversely affects outcomes in patients with acute type A aortic dissection, but reliable quantitative data are lacking. Objectives The aim of this study was to analyze the impact of various forms of malperfusion on early outcome. Methods A total of 2,137 consecutive patients enrolled in GERAADA (German Registry for Acute Aortic Dissection Type A) who underwent surgery between 2006 and 2010, of whom 717 (33.6%) had any kind of pre-operative malperfusion, were retrospectively analyzed. Dual effect of inorganic polymeric phosphate/polyphosphate on osteoblasts and osteoclasts in vitro

Inorganic polymeric phosphate/polyphosphate (polyP) is a natural polymer existing in both pro- and eukaryotic systems. In the present study the effect of polyP as well as of polyP supplied in a stoichiometric ratio of 2 m polyP:1 m CaCl2 [polyP (Ca2+ complex)] on the osteoblast-like SaOS-2 cells and the osteoclast-like RAW 264.7 cells was determined. Both polymers are non-toxic for these cells up to a concentration of 100 µm. In contrast to polyP, polyP (Ca2+ complex) significantly induced hydroxyapatite formation at a concentration > 10 µm, as documented by alizarin red S staining and scanning electron microscopic (SEM) inspection. The Programmed Death (PD)‐1/PD‐Ligand 1 Pathway Regulates Graft‐Versus‐Host‐Reactive CD8 T Cells After Liver Transplantation

Acute graft-versus-host disease (aGVHD) is a life-threatening complication after solid-organ transplantation, which is mediated by host-reactive donor T cells emigrating from the allograft. We report on two liver transplant recipients who developed an almost complete donor chimerism in peripheral blood and bone marrow-infiltrating T cells during aGVHD. By analyzing these T cells directly ex vivo, we found that they died by apoptosis over time without evidence of rejection by host T cells. The host-versus-donor reactivity was selectively impaired, as anti-third-party and antiviral T cells were still detectable in the host repertoire. PHEA-graft-polymethacrylate supramolecular aggregates for protein oral delivery

Abstract Salmon calcitonin (sCT) is characterized by a poor oral availability. A new copolymer, β-poly(N-2-hydroxyethyl)-graft-{N-2-ethylene[2-poly(methacrylic acid sodium salt)isobutyrate]}- d , l -aspartamide (PHEA-IB-p(MANa + )), was designed for the oral administration of sCT through the formation of supramolecular aggregates (SAs) based on electrostatic interactions. We present an approach towards a potential therapy of Alzheimer disease based on the high-energy polymer inorganic polyphosphate (polyP), which physiologically occurs both in the extracellular and in the intracellular space. Advances in haploidentical stem cell transplantation for hematologic malignancies

One of the most important advances in allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) is the use of alternative donors and cell sources, such as haploidentical transplants (haplo-HSCT) from family donors. Follow-up of patients with colonic polyps containing severe atypia and invasive carcinoma. Compliance, recurrence, and survival

Between January 1975 and December 1984 1769 polyps were endoscopically removed from 1219 patients. Eight percent of these patients had polyps containing severe atypia and 5.0% had polyps containing invasive cancer. A close postoperative surveillance program was followed by only a few patients, but compliance improved with longer follow-up intervals. Metachronous polyps were observed with similar frequency in patients with benign polyps (34.8%) and those with polyps containing severe atypia (23.8%) or cancer (41.7%).
