Effect of annealing temperature on persistent luminescence of Y3Al2Ga3O12:Cr3+ co-doped with Ce3+ and Pr3+

2021

Abstract Y3(Al,Ga)5O12 (YAGG) materials doped with Ce3+, Cr3+ and Pr3+ were synthesized by using a modified Pechini method and subsequently annealed in air at selected temperatures between 900 and 1500 °C. According to X-ray powder diffraction (XRPD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) analyses, the particles and size distributions become large and broad, respectively, due to sintering and agglomeration at high annealing temperatures. Based on infrared (FTIR) spectra and calculation of multi-phonon de-excitation probabilities, the high energy O–H vibrations are not causing significant multi-phonon de-excitation of the emitting 5d level of Ce3+ if the annealing temperature is above 90…

Probing the electronic state of a single coronene molecule by the emission from proximate fluorophores.

2012

We measured electronic transitions of the 2D graphene-type molecule hexa-peri-hexabenzocoronene (HBC) at the single-molecule level. The large intersystem crossing rate and long triplet state lifetime in the range of seconds are prohibitive for direct single-molecule observation. By covalently coupling fluorescent acceptor molecules (perylenecarboximide, PMI) to HBC, efficient singlet energy transfer gives rise to strong PMI fluorescence. Confocal single-molecule fluorescence microscopy with two excitation colours matching the HBC and PMI transition frequencies, respectively, was conducted. Single HBC-6PMI molecules were readily observed via the PMI emission. It was found that after selectiv…

Long-period grating assisted fractional differentiation of highly chirped light pulses

2016

We experimentally demonstrate the possibility to perform a fractional differentiation of arbitrary order on a given light pulse by propagation through a single long-period grating. A simple analytical expression is obtained also, relating the fractional order of differentiation with the parameters of the long-period grating. A secant hyperbolic like pulse of 23 ps time width with a chirp parameter of -30 was successfully fractionally differentiated to the 0.5th order. The proposal was corroborated experimentally and numerically. The device may find applications in real time phase recovery. Fil: Poveda Wong, L.. Universidad de Valencia; España Fil: Carrascosa, A.. Circular dichroism of magnetically induced transitions for D 2 lines of alkali atoms

2018

In this letter we study magnetic circular dichroism in alkali atoms exhibiting asymmetric behaviour of magnetically induced transitions. The magnetic field induces transitions between hyperfine levels of alkali atoms and in the range of magnetic field, the intensities of these transitions experience significant enhancement. We have inferred a general rule applicable for the D 2 lines of all alkali atoms, that is the transition intensity enhancement is around four times larger for the case of than for excitation for , whereas it is several hundreds of thousand times larger in the case of than that for polarization for . This asymmetric behaviour results in circular dichroism. For experimenta…

Combined spectroscopic and theoretical analysis of the binding of a water-soluble perylene diimide to DNA/RNA polynucleotides and G-quadruplexes.

2021

We present here a combined spectroscopic and theoretical analysis of the binding of N,N’-bis(2-(1-piperazino)ethyl)-3,4,9,10-perylenetetracarboxylic acid diimide dichloride (PZPERY) to different biosubstrates. Absorbance titrations and circular dichroism experiments, melting studies and isothermal calorimetry (ITC) titrations reveal a picture where the binding to natural double-stranded DNA is very different from that to double and triple-stranded RNAs (poly(A)∙poly(U) and poly(U)∙poly(A)⁎poly(U)). As confirmed also by the structural and energetic details clarified by density functional theory (DFT) calculations, intercalation occurs for DNA, with a process driven by the combination of aggr…

Influence of the symmetry on the circular dichroism in angular resolved core-level photoemission

2002

The model for angular resolved photoemission from adsorbed atoms is extended to account for the non-axial symmetry of atoms in a crystal field. In particular, circular dichroism in the angular distribution (CDAD) is theoretically investigated. A special emphasis is put on the case when incident photons are propagating along the principal axis of an atom in Cnv symmetry. The model, although mainly developed for adsorbates, may also be used as a base for emission from solid surfaces. An extension to simple bulk symmetries, like D for hexagonal or O for cubic crystals, is included. The CDAD 6 hh for normal incidence does not vanish in the extended model and reflects the symmetry of the adsorpt…

Temperature imaging and image processing in the steel industry

1996

Our aim is twofold: to present our temperature measurement system based on CCD technology, which gives a linear response versus temperature, and to display two industrial applications in which our system has been involved to optimize and characterize the process. We present a short summary dealing with temperature evaluations from radiation measurements. We consider especially the problems of the surroundings, the atmosphere, and the emissivity assumption. After selecting a value for the emissivity, we show that the use of the CCD technology enables us to obtain high spatial and temporal resolution temperature imaging, and provides further information, mainly a linear response versus temper…

Express RGB mapping of three to five skin chromophores

2017

Skin melanin, oxy- and deoxy-hemoglobin were snapshot-mapped under simultaneous 448-532-659 nm laser illumination by a smartphone RGB camera. Experimental prototypes for double-snapshot RGB mapping of four (melanin, bilirubin, oxy- and deoxy-hemoglobin) and five (melanin, bilirubin, lipids, oxy- and deoxy-hemoglobin) skin chromophores with reduced laser speckle artefacts have been developed and tested. A set of 405-448-532-659 nm lasers were used for four chromophores mapping, and a set of 405-448-532-659-842 nm lasers for five chromophores mapping. Clinical tests confirmed functionality of the developed devices.

Cytoskeleton and Consciousness: An Evolutionary Based Review

2015

The fields of quantum biology and physics are now starting to unite to solve the mysteries associated with the field of evolutionary biology. One such question is the origination and propagation of consciousness which has always been ambiguous and in order to understand this concept, many theories have been proposed by several philosophers and scientists. This review paper agrees with the idea, that evolution is not a random process but hypothesizes, that its succession was managed by the expanding level of consciousness due to cell division and cell differentiation. Several theories propose that the cytoskeleton and its proteins are promoters for consciousness in the brain, which propagate…
