Embedded Processing and Compression of 3D Sensor Data for Large Scale Industrial Environments

2019

This paper presents a scalable embedded solution for processing and transferring 3D point cloud data. Sensors based on the time-of-flight principle generate data which are processed on a local embedded computer and compressed using an octree-based scheme. The compressed data is transferred to a central node where the individual point clouds from several nodes are decompressed and filtered based on a novel method for generating intensity values for sensors which do not natively produce such a value. The paper presents experimental results from a relatively large industrial robot cell with an approximate size of 10 m &times

New Method of Microimages Generation for 3D Display

2018

In this paper, we propose a new method for the generation of microimages, which processes real 3D scenes captured with any method that permits the extraction of its depth information. The depth map of the scene, together with its color information, is used to create a point cloud. A set of elemental images of this point cloud is captured synthetically and from it the microimages are computed. The main feature of this method is that the reference plane of displayed images can be set at will, while the empty pixels are avoided. Another advantage of the method is that the center point of displayed images and also their scale and field of view can be set. To show the final results, a 3D InI dis…

Full-parallax 3D display from stereo-hybrid 3D camera system

2018

Abstract In this paper, we propose an innovative approach for the production of the microimages ready to display onto an integral-imaging monitor. Our main contribution is using a stereo-hybrid 3D camera system, which is used for picking up a 3D data pair and composing a denser point cloud. However, there is an intrinsic difficulty in the fact that hybrid sensors have dissimilarities and therefore should be equalized. Handled data facilitate to generating an integral image after projecting computationally the information through a virtual pinhole array. We illustrate this procedure with some imaging experiments that provide microimages with enhanced quality. After projection of such microim…

2018

This paper addresses an ongoing project KriseSIM aiming at creating a virtual training tool for crisis management that should be realistic, flexible, scalable with highfidelity system architecture and user interface. Our goal is to accomplish high-level requirements developed through a codesign process with the crisis management stakeholders. In this paper, we describe a highfidelity training tool architecture, which follows the serious game design principles. The tool is designed as a resource management serious game genre, where the players will deal with limited resources and should respond based on various critical information flows. A preliminary result, i.e. the architecture and the t…

Computational Offloading in Mobile Edge with Comprehensive and Energy Efficient Cost Function: A Deep Learning Approach

2021

In mobile edge computing (MEC), partial computational offloading can be intelligently investigated to reduce the energy consumption and service delay of user equipment (UE) by dividing a single task into different components. Some of the components execute locally on the UE while the remaining are offloaded to a mobile edge server (MES). In this paper, we investigate the partial offloading technique in MEC using a supervised deep learning approach. The proposed technique, comprehensive and energy efficient deep learning-based offloading technique (CEDOT), intelligently selects the partial offloading policy and also the size of each component of a task to reduce the service delay and energy …

Light-Tissue Interaction Model for the Analysis of Skin Ulcer Multi-spectral Images

2017

International audience; Skin ulcers (SU) are ones of the most frequent causes of consultation in primary health-care units (PHU) in tropical areas. However, the lack of specialized physicians in those areas, leads to improper diagnosis and management of the patients. There is then a need to develop tools that allow guiding the physicians toward a more accurate diagnosis. Multi-spectral imaging systems are a potential non-invasive tool that could be used in the analysis of skin ulcers. With these systems it is possible to acquire optical images at different wavelengths which can then be processed by means of mathematical models based on optimization approaches. The processing of those kind o…

Uncalibrated Reconstruction: An Adaptation to Structured Light Vision

2003

Abstract Euclidean reconstruction from two uncalibrated stereoscopic views is achievable from the knowledge of geometrical constraints about the environment. Unfortunately, these constraints may be quite difficult to obtain. In this paper, we propose an approach based on structured lighting, which has the advantage of providing geometrical constraints independent of the scene geometry. Moreover, the use of structured light provides a unique solution to the tricky correspondence problem present in stereovision. The projection matrices are first computed by using a canonical representation, and a projective reconstruction is performed. Then, several constraints are generated from the image an…

Optical method based detection and wavelets based processing of acoustic waves

2020

Acoustic waves (AW) has been used for the testing of static and dynamic structures. They contain the signature about the performance of rotary machines such as cyclic fatigue, friction, turbulence and cavitation. Thus has been extensively used in the condition monitoring and material characterization. In this paper, we present an algorithm based on wavelets to process the transient AW in time and frequency domain both simultaneously to extract its the temporal (e.g. time duration) and spectral properties (e.g. emission frequency). Further, optical method based on optical feedback (OF) is presented for detection of AW providing powerful non-contact, non-destructive diagnostic capabilities, w…

Fractional Fourier transform dual random phase encoding of time-varying signals

2008

Optical techniques have shown great potential in the field of information security to encode high-security images. Among several established methods, a double-random phase encryption technique (DRPE) for encoding a primary image into stationary white noise was developed by using the analogy between Fresnel diffraction patterns and the fractional Fourier transform (FrFT-DRPE). In this case, additional keys are obtained through the knowledge of the fractional orders of the FrFTs. In this work we propose an encoding setup for time-varying signals, mainly for short-haul fiber optics link applications, that can be considered as the temporal analogue of the spatial FrFT-DRPE. The behavior of the …

Efficient correspondence problem-solving in 3-D shape reconstruction using a structured light system

2005

This paper deals with 3-D object reconstruction using a structured light system (SLS). The SLS is composed of a camera and a laser projector that illuminates spots on the scene of interest. The basic problem of such a system is the correspondence problem. If the correct correspondence between the imaged spots and the projected laser rays is found, the 3-D coordinates of the physical points associated with these spots can be calculated. We propose a method that automatically provides SLS configurations (i.e., the relative positions of both camera and laser projector with respect to the object to be analyzed) that allow performing an unambiguous and direct correspondence procedure. Experiment…
