Three periodic solutions for perturbed second order Hamiltonian systems

AbstractIn this paper we study the existence of three distinct solutions for the following problem−u¨+A(t)u=∇F(t,u)+λ∇G(t,u)a.e. in [0,T],u(T)−u(0)=u˙(T)−u˙(0)=0, where λ∈R, T is a real positive number, A:[0,T]→RN×N is a continuous map from the interval [0,T] to the set of N-order symmetric matrices. We propose sufficient conditions only on the potential F. More precisely, we assume that G satisfies only a usual growth condition which allows us to use a variational approach.

Fixed Point Theorems in Partially Ordered Metric Spaces and Existence Results for Integral Equations

We derive some new coincidence and common fixed point theorems for self-mappings satisfying a generalized contractive condition in partially ordered metric spaces. As applications of the presented theorems, we obtain fixed point results for generalized contraction of integral type and we prove an existence theorem for solutions of a system of integral equations.

Knowledge Transfer Within Artisan Families in Early Nineteenth-Century Rural Finland

In nineteenth‑century Finland, artisans constituted an important part of society, and the majority of them lived in the countryside. Rural artisans were jacks-of-all-trades who met the needs of country folk. This chapter studies the rural artisans’ children and explores how craft knowledge was often transferred to the next generation. In early modern society, it was only natural that the son followed his father’s trade. This was a matter of societal stability and maintaining the social order. It was also practical to invest in the children’s future by transferring the family’s craft knowledge and skills to the offspring, who would provide future care for the elders in turn. Multiplicity of fixed points and growth of ε-neighborhoods of orbits

We study the relationship between the multiplicity of a fixed point of a function g, and the dependence on epsilon of the length of epsilon-neighborhood of any orbit of g, tending to the fixed point. The relationship between these two notions was discovered before (Elezovic, Zubrinic, Zupanovic) in the differentiable case, and related to the box dimension of the orbit. Here, we generalize these results to non-differentiable cases introducing a new notion of critical Minkowski order. Existence and multiplicity of periodic solutions for second order Hamiltonian systems depending on a parameter

The existence of at least one nontrivial periodic solution for a class of second order Hamiltonian systems depending on a parameter is obtained, under an algebraic condition on the nonlinearity G and without requiring any asymptotic behavior neither at zero nor at infinity. The existence is still deduced in the particular case when G is subquadratic at zero. Finally, two multiplicity results are proved if G, in addition, is required to fulfill some different Ambrosetti-Rabinowitz type superquadratic conditions at infinity. Sixteen 4-arylthiazol-2(3H)-ones (3) were synthesised by cyclisation of α-thiocyanatoacetophenones (1) in acid solution. They appear to prefer greatly the oxo tautomeric forms. In CCl4 solution an equilibrium between the free CO bond and a “dimeric” hydrogen-bonded form exists in which the latter predominates. Several IR and NMR (1H, 13C and 15N) spectral properties are shown to correlate with Hammett σ-values and/or atomic Mulliken charges and bond orders, the latter being estimated by PM3 or AM1 semiempirical methods. Multidimensional scaling and stock location assignment in a warehouse: an application

By means of an application, in the present paper, the suitability of a multivariate statistical methodology, as multidimensional scaling (MDS), to solve an optimization problem is shown. In particular, considering the stock location assignment problem in the warehouse of a supermarket chain, the solution gained by applying MDS to a set of seven variables is compared with the one obtainable by considering the usual techniques applied in this context. A wide discussion of results is reported.
