Comparative Experimental and Theoretical Study of the C and O K-Edge X-ray Absorption Spectroscopy in Three Highly Popular, Low Spin Organoiron Compl…
2019
The unoccupied electronic structures of three closed-shell, highly popular organoiron complexes ([Fe(CO)5], [(η5-C5H5)Fe(CO)(μ-CO)]2, and [(η5-C5H5)2Fe]; 0, I, and II, respectively) have been investigated both experimentally and theoretically by combining original gas-phase X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) outcomes recorded at the C and O K-edge with results of scalar relativistic time-dependent density functional calculations carried out within the zeroth order regular approximation. Experimental evidence herein discussed complement the Fe L2,3-edges XAS ones we recently recorded, modeled, and assigned for the same complexes (Carlotto et al. Inorg. Chem. 2019, 58, 5844). The first-princ…
Food supplementation reveals constraints and adaptability of egg quality in the magpie Pica pica
2015
Differences in the deposition of limited maternal resources to eggs can reflect the optimal allocation to manipulate offspring phenotype, or constraints caused by maternal condition. We examined multiple maternal substances transferred to eggs in the magpie Pica pica to test the hypothesis that certain substances represent constraint and some optimal allocation. We did this by supplementary feeding magpies prior to egg-laying and then comparing the effect of food on maternal substances in conjunction with laying order relative to a control group. Certain substances such as carotenoids, immunoglobulins and avidin responded positively to food supplementation, whereas others, such as testoste…
Global dynamical behaviors in a physical shallow water system
2016
International audience; The theory of bifurcations of dynamical systems is used to investigate the behavior of travelling wave solutions in an entire family of shallow water wave equations. This family is obtained by a perturbative asymptotic expansion for unidirectional shallow water waves. According to the parameters of the system, this family can lead to different sets of known equations such as Camassa-Holm, Korteweg-de Vries, Degasperis and Procesi and several other dispersive equations of the third order. Looking for possible travelling wave solutions, we show that different phase orbits in some regions of parametric planes are similar to those obtained with the model of the pressure …
A simple algorithm for finding short sigma-definite representatives
2010
We describe a new algorithm which for each braid returns a quasi-geodesic sigma-definite word representative, defined as a braid word in which the generator sigma_i with maximal index i appears either only positively or only negatively.
Embedding mapping class groups of orientable surfaces with one boundary component
2012
We denote by $S_{g,b,p}$ an orientable surface of genus $g$ with $b$ boundary components and $p$ punctures. We construct homomorphisms from the mapping class groups of $S_{g,1,p}$ to the mapping class groups of $S_{g',1,(b-1)}$, where $b\geq 1$. These homomorphisms are constructed from branched or unbranched covers of $S_{g,1,0}$ with some properties. Our main result is that these homomorphisms are injective. For unbranched covers, this construction was introduced by McCarthy and Ivanov~\cite{IM}. They proved that the homomorphisms are injective. A particular cases of our embeddings is a theorem of Birman and Hilden that embeds the braid group on $p$ strands into the mapping class group of …
Investigation of the vibrational dynamics of the HCN/CNH isomers through high order canonical perturbation theory
2000
International audience; Molecular vibrations of the molecule HCN/CNH are examined using a combination of a minimum energy path Hamiltonian and high order canonical perturbation theory , as suggested in a recent work [D. Sugny and M. Joyeux, J. Chem. Phys. 112, 31 (2000)]. In addition, the quantum analog of the classical CPT is presented and results obtained therefrom are compared to the classical ones. The MEP Hamiltonian is shown to provide an accurate representation of the original potential energy surface and a convenient starting point for the CPT. The CPT results are subsequently used to elucidate the molecular dynamics: It appears that the isomerization dynamics of HCN/CNH is very tri…

2009
The interaction of an intense ultrashort laser pulse with a molecular sample leads, after the end of the pulse, to molecular alignment at specific time under field-free conditions. This thesis is dedicated to the measurements and applications of this effect. The degree of alignment is determined through the variation of the refractive index induced by the rearrangement of the molecular dipoles. A two-dimensional technique allowing to measure molecular alignment on a single-shot basis is reported in this document. The alignment is then exploited in order to determine physical quantities which are usually difficult to estimate through others methods. The "cross-defocusing technique" has been …
Ressources naturelles et développement dans le monde tropical : les contradictions entre dynamiques écologiques, reproduction sociale et ordre économ…
2013
Natural resources are in the midst of contradictory dynamics. While they are essential to the reproduction of societies and life, actual organization of the world economy subordinates them to logics of accumulation. In addition to the fact that these logics don't take into account (consider) the physical limits inside of which humanity evolves, they induce problematic socio-ecological inequalities at different scales. Indeed, actual international economic order tends to generate ecologically unequal exchanges, which disrupt the development of primary exporting countries and threaten the most vulnerable populations and ecosystems inside of them.Tropics are the typical context in which such c…
