La sociedad multicultural. Democracia y derechos
1997
Institutional perspectives in transition : research groups’ profiles and embeddedness in organisational and national context
2019
Research into differentiation and profiling of knowledge producing institutions through the lenses of institutional logics and field embeddedness have proliferated in recent years. By discussing this process in the context of research groups, as those basic units in which knowledge production epistemically and practically takes place, this article offers a contribution to the theoretical discussion on organisational differentiation. Based on a small-N comparative case study of research groups operating in different national and organisational contexts on a single, highly competitive and interdisciplinary applied sciences field, nanosciences, the article proposes research group profiles as h…
2010
International audience; When you arrive for the first time in Brazzaville, you are struck by the huge number of motorized vehicles related to public transport. Buses, minibuses, collectives cabs… all these vehicles seem to evolve in the most absolute anarchy without the slightest indication for the user. But, behind this visible disorder is hided a very well organized logic structured in a completely self-organized way. After the following voluntary liquidation of the "Society of urban transport of Brazzaville" in 1989 the private sector is now dominating the market related to transport of peoples. After an immersion within the environment of Brazzaville carriers, various strategies of move…
Relationship between management Control and Organizational learning: An exploratory Study
2019
How representative are referendums? Evidence from 20 years of Swiss referendums
2017
Direct democracy allows citizens to reverse decisions made by legislatures and even initiate new laws which parliaments are unwilling to pass, thereby, as its proponents argue, leading to more representative policies than would have obtained under a purely representative democracy. Yet, turnout in referendums is usually lower than in parliamentary elections and tends to be skewed towards citizens of high socio-economic status. Consequently, critics of direct democracy argue that referendum outcomes may not be representative of the preferences of the population at large. We test this assertion using a compilation of post-referendum surveys encompassing 148 national referendums held in Switze…

Provincial Scientific Societies and Publishing: Centre and Peripheries of Publishing Science in late Victorian Britain
2022
Publishing, albeit in many cases irregular, became one of the main activities of provincial scientific societies from the 1860s. In this way, the natural history societies and field clubs contributed to the inflation of scientific publications were thought to disrupt the progress of science. As a remedy, the creation of regional and regular periodicals instead of the publishing by individual societies was suggested. The appearance of the regional federations of natural history societies in the 1870s shows that the need to publish became even greater. The Midland Union of Natural History Societies (1877-1895) was founded with the aim of “imagining” a Midland community of naturalists through …
From conscript gymnastics to sportive gymnastics. 1919-1939: The case of the Federation of Alsatian Gymnastics Associations
2000
Between the two World Wars, gymnastics become a sport just as any other sport. An analysis of the history of the Federation of Alsatian Gymnastics Associations allows us to understand this mutation which is even more remarkable since the opposition between gymnastics and sports was initially very stiff. This mutation corresponds to a series of transformations affecting the gymnastics associations both in their functioning modalities and their social structure: the gymnast, traditionally excluded of decision making circles, becomes a full-fledged member; increasingly fewer " passive members " are inclined to support the mass education carried out by gymnastics associations; instructors are r…
