Assessment of Fatigue Effects Induced by Fast Beam Transients in the IFMIF-DONES Li Target

2020

One of the crucial steps toward the commercial exploitation of fusion energy is the availability of a high-intensity neutron source able to test and qualify structural materials to be used in future fusion power reactors. The International Fusion Materials Irradiation Facility-DEMO Oriented NEutron Source (IFMIF-DONES) facility, which is currently being designed within the framework of the EUROfusion Consortium, represents the European effort to develop such a neutron source. It employs a liquid lithium target struck by an accelerated deuteron (D+) beam to produce fusion-like neutrons used to irradiate materials samples. So far, a detailed investigation of the thermomechanical behavior of t…

Resilience and Parental Burnout Among Finnish Parents During the COVID-19 Pandemic: Variable and Person-Oriented Approaches.

2021

During the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) crisis, different personality characteristics may have influenced parental well-being in different ways. In the present study, we combined variable and person-oriented approaches and examined relationships between resilience, parental burnout, and perfectionism during the lockdown. We first used structural equation modeling to assess the paths between variables. We then used latent profile analysis to examine different profiles of parents based on resilience, perfectionism, and symptoms of parental burnout. Finally, we examined how these profiles differ in terms of relevant background variables. The results showed that resilience predicted par…

Friends or lovers? Person- and variable-oriented perspectives on dyadic similarity in adolescent romantic relationships

2012

Item does not contain fulltext Variable- and person-oriented approaches were used to examine the affiliative and romantic experiences of adolescents in heterosexual romantic relationships and its associations with relationship conflict and jealousy on a sample of 194 romantic partner dyads. Variable-oriented findings indicated that affiliative experiences were associated with fewer and more constructively resolved conflicts, whereas romantic experiences were associated with more jealousy. Person-oriented analyses identified six distinct types of romantic relationships: four characterized by congruent perceptions and two characterized by incongruent perceptions. Adolescents in the consummate…

Miti, culti, saperi. Per un'antropologia religiosa della Mesopotamia antica

2021

The theoretical and methodological approaches of Cultural and Social Anthropology have long since become indispensable for the study of classical antiquity, so much so that we can speak of a Historical Anthropology of the Ancient World. On the contrary, the dialogue between historians and philologists on the one hand and anthropologists, on the other hand, has been less developed concerning the cultures of the ancient Near East. There are several reasons for this lack of dialogue, the most important of which is the fact that the multilingual cuneiform textual corpus is still largely unpublished and characterized by philological difficulties that make it inaccessible to non-specialists. This…

Classification of SD-OCT volumes with multi pyramids, LBP and HOG descriptors: application to DME detections.

2016

This paper deals with the automated detection of Diabetic Macular Edema (DME) on Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) volumes. Our method considers a generic classification pipeline with preprocessing for noise removal and flattening of each B-Scan. Features such as Histogram of Oriented Gradients (HOG) and Local Binary Patterns (LBP) are extracted and combined to create a set of different feature vectors which are fed to a linear-Support Vector Machines (SVM) Classifier. Experimental results show a promising sensitivity/specificity of 0.75/0.87 on a challenging dataset.

Tell Shiyukh Tahtani, Syria Report of the 2006-09 Seasons

2012

The Italian excavations at Shiyukh Tahtani have recently resumed, revealing a long occupation sequence on the mound’s eastern slope (Area CD). In Trench D23, on the summit, an Iron Age level II building contained a rich array of pottery, sheep knuckle bones, clay ‘bobbins’ and an unstratified Egyptian scarab of Menkheperre. An earlier massive building (LBA ?) was also excavated below the Iron Age II occupation. Halfway down the slope the lower level of a large burnt complex of Middle Bronze I date contained rich finds and various burials characterized by peculiar rituals. Finally, in a deep trench down below the slope, EB I-II remains included niched mud-brick architecture of fine Mesopo…

Early Syrian Bottles

2014

Near Eastern archaeologists are accustomed today to labelling as “Syrian bottles” various kinds of oil/perfume fasks that enjoyed a wide popularity in Syria during the 3rd millennium. Owing to the volatile nature of their contents and the lack of archeometric analysis it has not been possible so far to ascertain whether these vessels were scent or unguent vases. Whatever the case, since they have been found far afeld from the core region of production it is clear that they were a luxury item of long-distance trade and are thus today – if possible misattributions are discarded – a valuable indicator of exchange networks and for establishing synchronisms among distant areas of the ancient Nea…

Synthesis and helical supramolecular organization of discotic liquid crystalline dibenzo[hi,st]ovalene

2019

Dibenzo[hi,st]ovalene (DBOV) has emerged as a new polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) with intriguing optical properties with strong red emission. Nevertheless, DBOV derivatives thus far synthesized either had mesityl groups that hinder the pi-pi stacking of the aromatic cores or showed low solubility, and the self-assembly of DBOVs has not been investigated. In this work, two 3,4,5-tris(dodecyloxy)phenyl (TDOP) groups are introduced at the meso-positions of DBOV in order to enhance its solubility without compromising the intermolecular interactions. The obtained DBOV-TDOP forms at elevated temperatures a discotic liquid crystalline phase. Due to pi-pi-stacking interactions as well as loc…

Tell Shiyukh Tahtani. New light on the Bronze Age sequence

2014

This report briefly describes the latest results of the Italian rescue excavations at Shiyukh Tahtani on the Upper Syrian Euphrates. Fieldwork continued on the eastern slope of the mound, aiming to further investigate the Bronze Age levels. A main operation, halfway down the slope, focused upon the earliest MB I layers, where a group of burials was unearthed, mostly consisting of adult interments in oval pits and child pot burials. A most striking finding was the ‘Spinstress tomb’. At the foot of the slope, the exploration of a mud-brick compound, dating back to the early third millennium BC, continued. Here further remarkable evidence of massive domestic architecture in a fine Mesopotamian…
