A Semantic Publish/Subscribe Approach for U-VR Systems Interoperation

As ubiquitous virtual reality (U-VR) systems become more and more popular and several systems coexist all together, sharing events between them in order to improve the user experience and increase their scope and functionality will be mandatory. Since U-VR systems have a dynamic and decoupled nature, and they have their own event model, we propose in this paper a semantic publish/subscribe infrastructure that lies on a description logics reasoner and OWL ontologies for managing heterogeneous event models and performing the matching of events and subscriptions in such U-VR systems.
User-oriented evaluation of mechanical single-channel axial pipettes.

Hand tools should be designed so that they are comfortable to use, fit the hand and are user-oriented. Six different manual, single-channel axial pipettes were evaluated for such objective outcomes as muscular activity, wrist postures and efficiency, as well as for subjective outcomes concerning self-assessed features of pipette usability and musculoskeletal strain. Ten experienced laboratory employees volunteered for the study. The results showed that light and short pipettes with better tool comfort resulted in reduced muscular activity and perceived musculoskeletal strain when they were compared with a long and heavy pipette. In this context, we propose in this paper a new perspective of image segmentation by applying two efficient community detection algorithms. By considering regions as communities, these methods can give an over-segmented image that has many small regions. Does vocationally oriented foreign language teaching meet the needs of Finnish and German vocational school students?

This article is based on upper secondary vocational school students’ interviews made in Finland and in Germany in 2016 and in 2017. The study results suggest that in both countries, English language skills are seen as the most important foreign language skills and the students would like to have more vocationally oriented English language classes with focus on authentic spoken language communication. The differences in the educational systems of the two countries might result in differences in students‘ perceptions of whether and to what extent they will actually need foreign languages in their future working life. nonPeerReviewed

A branch-and-cut algorithm for the Team Orienteering Problem

The Team Orienteering Problem aims at maximizing the total amount of profit collected by a fleet of vehicles while not exceeding a predefined travel time limit on each vehicle. In the last years, several exact methods based on different mathematical formulations were proposed. In this paper, we present a new two-index formulation with a polynomial number of variables and constraints. This compact formulation, reinforced by connectivity constraints, was solved by means of a branch-and-cut algorithm. The total number of instances solved to optimality is 327 of 387 benchmark instances, 26 more than any previous method. Moreover, 24 not previously solved instances were closed to optimality.

The subjective experiences of participants in couple therapy have been explored through Stimulated Recall Interviews (SRIs), in which both clients and therapists come individually to watch video clips of their therapy sessions. We believe SRIs offer a good resource for Practice Oriented Research (POR) by promoting meaningful, flexible interplay between scientific research and clinical practice. Team members have different roles, either as “insiders” or “outsiders” of the therapeutic setting.
