The paper focus on the ephemeral apparatus realized by the architect Salvatore Attinelli on the occasion of the funeral of Charles III of Bourbon, to be set up inside the cathedral of Palermo, in those years affected by a total internal modernization based on the project commissioned in 1767 to Ferdinando Fuga. The design in the various sectors of decorative and industrial arts for Ernesto Basile represents a unitary fact linked to architectural composition. His activity in the different artistic sectors stands out above all for his ability to identify autonomous fields of research and experimentation. The truly innovative scope of Basile’s role lies above all in his being probably the only Italian architect of international level consciously devoted to the principle of integral design and to an effective leveling of the arts. This will lead him in the arc of his entire activity, from the integral project to industrial design, to anticipate the birth of the figure of the designer.

The most recent forms of e-participation seem to provide new issues that need to be discussed. One such discussion involves the role of GIS. Can an ethically aware GIS be conceived? What does it mean for a GIS to be ethical at all? Throughout this paper, first the authors create a theoretical framework to encompass four key elements that lead us to the definition of ethical digital mapping: GIS ethics, social justice, power, and participation. In this communication we present key new evidence on the story of the famous Salafia embalming manuscript that further clarifies the genesis of a series of studies on this topic and corroborates our assumptions published in previous articles on this matter. In the second part of the paper, we provide a concise ethical analysis of Rosalia Lombardo’s case and try to establish a level of evidence in the assessment of her preservation by comparing facts and interpretations. “Ethical considerations are clearly important in the practice, subject matter and research priorities of geography. […] Cultivating a dialogue on ethics […] contributes to us becoming more fully conscious human beings” (Routledge, 2010: 399). The project ¿Harvesting Memories: Ecology and Archaeology of Monti Sicani landscapes¿ aims to analyse the long-term relationship of landscape dynamics and settlement patterns in a Mediterranean inland of Central-Western Sicily. The project combined different interdisciplinary approaches of vegetation science, landscape ecology, history and archaeology in order to diachronically understand and reconstruct the human- society-environment interactions.
