2007
The recent abandonment of marginal agricultural areas in the Mediterranean has caused an increase of the surface occupied by pre-forest and forest formations. In order to study the carbon accumulation processes on Pantelleria Island was selected a North-facing area. This area includes 5 stages of succession (sds) that compose a chronosequence (from 0 to 30 years) to understand soil C accumulation processes after abandonment. These are abandoned vineyards or caperbushes, not disturbed (grazing, fire) since agricultural abandonment, and they are situated in thermomediterranean belt and on the same parent material and consequently considered in the same ecological conditions. Samples at 1 cm, …
Primi dati sugli alberi monumentali di Pantelleria
2016
More Dematiaceous Hyphomycetes from Pantelleria Mediterranean maquis litter
2009
This is the second contribution to the knowledge of Dematiaceous Hyphomycetes found on different plant litters from Pantelleria mediterranean maquis. Four new species are proposted while others are identified only as genera because of the scanty material found.

Petrologic constraints on melting conditions in the Strait of Sicily Rift Zone.
2013
The Strait of Sicily Rift Zone (SSRZ) is a northwest-southeast trending transtensional rift situated in the Mediterranean Sea between Sicily and north Africa. The SSRZ consists of three basins: the Pantelleria Trough, the Linosa Basin, and the Malta Trough. Volcanoes are situated in or adjacent to all except the Malta Trough, and include two islands (Pantelleria and Linosa) and several seamounts. The thickness of the crust throughout the region is 25-35 km, but thins to 16-18 km in the basins of the SSRZ. The Pantelleria Trough is characterized by high average heat flow values and a strong positive Bourger anomaly, which suggest assthenospheric upwelling to ~60 km and the presence of abunda…
Geology and petrochemistry of recent (25 ka) silicic volcanism at Pantelleria Island
2007
built a complex sequence of interfingered deposits emitted by closely spaced eruptive vents which are frequently associated with dome-building phases and pantelleritic lavas flows. Field relationships allowed us to recognize eight eruptive units, all lying above the Montagna Grande trachytes. As a whole, petrochemical characteristics of the erupted products indicate an evolutionary trend in which Na-clinopyroxene was the liquidus phase, followed by alkali feldspar. Amphibole and quartz are late-crystallizing, whereas aenigmatite is both early- and late-crystallizing as well. Aenigmatite and Na-clinopyroxene crystallization buffers efficiently the increase of agpaicity, induced by feldspar c…
ANFORE E CERAMICHE COMUNI E DA FUOCO DA THERMAE HIMERAEAE (SICILIA) E DAL SUO HINTERLAND
2014
This report, part of a wider project involving the ancient landscapes of Himera and Thermae, presents the archaeological and archaeometric results on Late Roman amphorae and coarse/cooking wares from Termini Imerese. The aim is also to illustrate the distribution of the same types of Roman pottery in the hinterland of Thermae, where the Dept. of Cultural Heritage of Palermo University has carried out intensive surveys (from 1982, published from 1988 until 2009). A good documentation of African amphorae, coarse/cooking wares, produced both in Byzacena and Zeugitana, and also local amphorae and coarse/cooking wares and Pantellerian ware, have been found both in Thermae and in the hinterland, …
None of the studies dealing with the loss of Sicilian reared animal and cultivated plant diversity mentions the presence of ani…
