The current thesis focuses in one of Spain’s most relevant authors: Pedro Dorado Montero. Acting as a bridge between the criminal law conceptions of the 19th and 20th centuries, Dorado Montero offered a very unique, original theory: the ‘Derecho protector de los criminales’ (Protective Law of the Criminals). Towards the end of the 19th century, a clash between the penal neoclassical theories and the new positivist theories took place. As a result, the hegemony of the old school was contested. The argument purported here is that even though the idea of international anarchy is often seen as very central for the academic discipline of international relations, the concept is in fact not found from the forerunners or classics of the discipline. El presente estudio pretende resolver la controversia en torno a la identidad y procedencia del poeta Filóxeno, célebre ditirambógrafo del siglo V-IV a.C. Para ello, hemos recopilado todos los testimonios que citan a personajes con el nombre de Filóxeno desde la primera mención de Aristófanes. La investigación ha revelado que existen varios individuos con el mismo nombre y rasgos comunes. No obstante, el examen de estos testimonios revela la existencia de un único autor de ditirambos: Filóxeno de Citera. This study deals with the sceptical arguments by one of the most important figures in the philosophical Sufi tradition (the Akbarian school) and the foremost disciple of Ibn ʿArabī, Ṣadr al‐Dīn al‐Qūnawī. Though not a sceptic in the strict sense, Qūnawī employs sceptical arguments from relativity of rational knowledge and disagreement among philosophers to prove inefficacy of reason and rational procedures of knowledge in terms of achieving certain knowledge of metaphysical matters, namely of God and the ultimate principles of things. Participation in the public debate constitutes one of the most evident avenues for political scientists to demonstrate the social relevance of the discipline. This article focuses on two questions: the types of roles political scientists adopt in their public interventions and the potential tensions between their public engagement and the epistemic norms regulating academic and research activities.
