Cumulative inertia or cumulative stress? Migration behaviour of Finnish graduates

An interesting yet largely unstudied question regarding labour migration behaviour and residence duration is whether migration becomes more or less likely over time. This paper analyses the determinants of residence duration for Finnish graduates. Our results affirm the importance of cumulative inertia as a determinant of migration. The longer a person stays in a region, the smaller are the hazard rates of migration. However, for those graduates who moved to a new region during their year of graduation, the propensity for repeat migration is particularly high during their first three years of residence.

Hydrogen plasma induced photoelectron emission from metal surfaces

Low temperature hydrogen plasmas are strong sources of vacuum ultraviolet radiation. The properties of laboratory plasmas can be influenced by surface processes induced by photons with their energies exceeding the surface work function of the wall material. In this work, the plasma induced photoelectron emission has been studied with different ion sources. The emission depends on the mechanical design of the plasma device, plasma heating method and the discharge power (density). Nowadays, Sicilian growers moved fron traditional summer planting with cold-stored strawberry plants to winter planting using fresh plants. Fresh plants let di anticipate and expand the harvesting period from December to May and produce strawberries with better qualitative parameters. Fresh bare root plants are produced mainly in Spain and Poland but in the last years mountain's nurseries near yhe cultivation fields were set up in Sicily. Local warning colour polymorphism, frequently observed in aposematic organisms, is evolutionarily puzzling. This is because variation in aposematic signals is expected to be selected against due to predators' difficulties associating several signals with a given unprofitable prey. Aposematic organisms warn predators of their unprofitability using a combination of defenses, including visual warning signals, startling sounds, noxious odors, or aversive tastes. Using multiple lines of defense can help prey avoid predators by stimulating multiple senses and/or by acting at different stages of predation.
