Influence of flavonoids on the transmembrane electron transport:study ex-vivo

2015

The oxidative stress results from a change in the physiological balancebetween oxidant and antioxidant species. This condition induces an chemical change in the redox state of cells.. The function of t-PMET is to cooperate with intracellular redox pairs, like piruvate and lactate, to maintain thecytoplasmatic NAD+/NADH balance. The t-PMET is correlated with the modulation of internal pH and redox homeostasis, as it is able to activate proton release. Thus, t-PMET causes external and internal pH modification, as well as development of an inside negative membrane potential. The aim of this work was evaluate the erythrocytes redox status in a group of health volunteers and then to study whethe…

Two-step cross correlation-based algorithm for motion estimation applied to fertilizer granules' motion during centrifugal spreading

2011

Imaging systems are progressing in both accuracy and ro- bustness, and their use in precision agriculture is increasing accordingly. One application of imaging systems is to understand and control the cen- trifugal fertilizing spreading process. Predicting the spreading pattern on the ground relies on an estimation of the trajectories and velocities of ejected granules. The algorithms proposed to date have shown low ac- curacy, with an error rate of a few pixels. But a more accurate estimation of the motion of the granules can be achieved. Our new two-step cross- correlation-based algorithm is based on the technique used in particle image velocimetry (PIV), which has yielded highly accurate…

Adulteration detection of argan oil by inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry

2010

Abstract The singularity of the trace element profile of argan oil has been demonstrated by means of inductively coupled plasma optical emission measurement in combination with different chemometric approaches. The ability of multivariate analysis methods; such as hierarchical cluster analysis (HCA), principal component analysis (PCA), classification trees using Chi -squared Automatic Interaction Detector (CHAID) and discriminant analysis (DA) to achieve edible oils classification based on its type or variety from their elemental content have been investigated. The calculations were performed using 16 variables (contents of Na, Mg, Al, K, Ca, Ti, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, Cd, Pr, Sm, Er and Bi at…

Inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy determination of trace element composition of argan oil.

2011

A methodology based on inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectroscopy (ICP-OES) after microwave assisted acid digestion has been developed to determine the trace element content of Moroccan argan oil. Limit of detection values equal or lower than few mg/kg were obtained for all elements under study. To assure the accuracy of the whole procedure, recovery studies were carried out on argan oil samples spiked at different concentration levels from 10 to 200 µg/L. Quantitative average recovery values were obtained for all elements evaluated, demonstrating the suitability of this methodology for the determination of trace elements in argan oil samples. Aluminum, calcium, chromium, iro…

On the discreet spectrum of fractional quantum hydrogen atom in two dimensions

2019

We consider a fractional generalization of two-dimensional (2D) quantum-mechanical Kepler problem corresponding to 2D hydrogen atom. Our main finding is that the solution for discreet spectrum exists only for $\mu>1$ (more specifically $1 < \mu \leq 2$, where $\mu=2$ corresponds to "ordinary" 2D hydrogenic problem), where $\mu$ is the L\'evy index. We show also that in fractional 2D hydrogen atom, the orbital momentum degeneracy is lifted so that its energy starts to depend not only on principal quantum number $n$ but also on orbital $m$. To solve the spectral problem, we pass to the momentum representation, where we apply the variational method. This permits to obtain approximate analytica…

Characterizing and Quantifying Frustration in Quantum Many-Body Systems

2011

We present a general scheme for the study of frustration in quantum systems. We introduce a universal measure of frustration for arbitrary quantum systems and we relate it to a class of entanglement monotones via an exact inequality. If all the (pure) ground states of a given Hamiltonian saturate the inequality, then the system is said to be inequality saturating. We introduce sufficient conditions for a quantum spin system to be inequality saturating and confirm them with extensive numerical tests. These conditions provide a generalization to the quantum domain of the Toulouse criteria for classical frustration-free systems. The models satisfying these conditions can be reasonably identifi…

Charge fluctuations and electric mass in a hot meson gas

2006

Net-Charge fluctuations in a hadron gas are studied using an effective hadronic interaction. The emphasis of this work is to investigate the corrections of hadronic interactions to the charge fluctuations of a non-interacting resonance gas. Several methods, such as loop, density and virial expansions are employed. The calculations are also extended to SU(3) and some resummation schemes are considered. Although the various corrections are sizable individually, they cancel to a large extent. As a consequence we find that charge fluctuations are rather well described by the free resonance gas.

Angiopoietin-2 plasma dosage predicts time to first treatment and overall survival in chronic lymphocytic leukemia.

2010

Abstract The clinical relevance of angiopoietin-2 (Ang2) in chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) was previously suggested by the association between high Ang2, and shorter progression-free survival reported in small series of patients. Here, we evaluated Ang2 glycoprotein levels in plasma samples collected from a multicentric cohort of CLL patients (n = 316) using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay method, and we investigated its prognostic role in relation to time to first treatment (TTFT) and overall survival. Based on a cutoff equal to 2459 pg/mL, we divided our cohort in 2 subsets (high and low Ang2) composing 100 (31.6%) and 216 (68.4%) patients, respectively. High Ang2 was predictive …

Degradation of Antibiotic Vancomycin by UV Photolysis and Pulsed Corona Discharge Combined with Extrinsic Oxidants

2023

Antibiotics are the most frequently detected pharmaceuticals in the environment creating conditions for the development of resistant genes in bacteria. Degradation and mineralization of glycopeptide antibiotic vancomycin (VMN) were examined by UV photolysis, pulsed corona discharge (PCD), and their combinations with extrinsic oxidants, hydrogen peroxide (HP), peroxydisulfate (PDS), and peroxymonosulfate (PMS). Both combinations were effective in VMN degradation and faster at pH 11 than in acidic or neutral media. Combined with the UV photolysis, HP showed a higher oxidation rate than other oxidants, whereas PMS and PDS proved to be more efficient in combinations with PCD. In contrast to low…
