On the role of multi-functional polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane in polystyrene-zinc oxide nanocomposites
2014
Abstract Multi-functional trisilanol phenyl (TSPH) and trisilanol isobutyl (TSIB) polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) have been used in the formulation of advanced polystyrene (PS)-zinc oxide (ZnO) nanocomposites. The neat matrix and PS/ZnO-based nanocomposites have been characterized through rheological, morphological, mechanical, and dynamic thermo-mechanical analysis. Both TSPH and TSIB are able to improve the dispersion of ZnO into the polystyrene matrix; furthermore, adding TSIB leads to better results because it facilitates better solubility into the PS matrix and interaction/reaction with the ZnO nanopowder. Finally, the optical properties and photo-oxidative resistance of th…
Nanocompositi a base polimerica e molecole POSS: comportamento reologico e proprietà fisiche
2012
Nanocomposites based on PS, PE, or ethylene-acrylic acid (ESCOR 5001) and POSS (Polyhedral oligomeric SilseSquioxanes) molecules were prepared by melt mixing. The nanocomposites’s structure-property relationships were analyzed mainly by rheological investigations and the variations with respect to the matrices were highlighted. The results of the rheological analysis show that the POSS molecules affect the properties in the molten state and act as plasticizer that is contrasted by the hydrogen bonds. The inorganic cage’s structure and the organic nature of the vertex groups of the molecules POSS play an important role in modulating the dispersion and in determining the final properties of t…
Cultural institutions as agents of urban and community regeneration in the (post-)pandemic city. The case of the «Laboratorio Zen Insieme» in Palermo
2022
Although all cities in the world have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, its impacts on the territories, yet to be understood, are unevenly distributed, revealing extremely varied imbalances depending on the places. However, it is clear that the virus and its variants have aggravated pre-existing socio-spatial inequalities, creating new ones and bringing attention back to those implications between space, planning, public health and citizenship that are at the origins of contemporary urbanism. In a reference framework in which the crisis is globalized but unequal and in the absence of a welfare system capable of responding to the urgencies of the most marginalized social contexts and g…
Incompiute città di Palermo
2019

2018
«Voice» and «Point of view» have been two of the most debated topics in some fields of linguistics and semiotics. Generally, DUCROT (1984) is considered like one of the first essays which introduced these concepts in the theoretical framework of the analysis of enunciation. As for the first one, the Author limits himself to suggest that it is connected with the notion of «discourse». In fact, by examining some topics of SPERBER & WILSON (1978), he seems to assimilate «voice» to «discourse». Indeed, you can read «j’ai substitué l’expression “faire entendre une voix” à leur expression “mentionner un discours”». As for the second concept, He seems to assimilate «point of view» to intuitive not…

2015
Ontological proof can still claim a meaning for itself as a privileged locus of religious experience that thought has to the extent that it makes itself able to open up to something that, for its part, cannot be contained in the scope of the simply thinkable. This article will discuss, also in a dialogue with the positions of some authors, the possibility of this religious experience that spans thought and which thought itself is able to account for, no longer with the means of a purely demonstrative procedure, but going right to the bottom of those conflicts and internal lacerations that make it, so to speak, permeable to faith. This makes it possible, at one and the same time, to find in …
