Jürgen Habermas. Il paradigma dell'agire comunicativo

2000

This chapter examines the consultation within the policy process, presenting its general characteristics. Specific consultation techniques are dealt with, highlighting for each of them the strengths and weaknesses defined also on the basis of the cognitive objectives that we intend to achieve and indi…

The present study deals with the first appearance of the image of the Seven Princes. Studying the tradition behind this image, I analyze how the iconographic type of the Seven Princes, evolved both from the point of view of composition as well as iconography…

It takes two to tango

2003

Abstract In most taxa, females are more likely than males to care for offspring. Why? Ever since Trivers' landmark work, the answer has been traced back to sexual differences in pre-mating reproductive investment (unequal gamete size or anisogamy). However, recent work shows that parental investment theory has inadvertently ignored a profoundly simple fact of life: every offspring has a mother and father. Taking this into account completely changes how we should think about sex differences in parental care.

Multi-spectral mapping of in vivo skin hemoglobin and melanin

2010

The multi-spectral imaging technique has been used for distant mapping of in-vivo skin chromophores by analyzing spectral data at each reflected image pixel and constructing 2-D maps of the relative concentrations of oxy-/deoxyhemoglobin and melanin. Instead of using a broad visible-NIR spectral range, this study focuses on narrowed spectral band 500-700 nm, so speeding-up the signal processing procedure. Regression analysis confirmed that superposition of three Gaussians is optimal analytic approximation for the oxy-hemoglobin absorption tabular spectrum in this spectral band, while superposition of two Gaussians fits well for deoxy-hemoglobin absorption and exponential function - for mela…

Multiple-Output Walsh Function Generation for Minimum Orthogonality Error

1978

A hazard-free multiple-output Walsh function generator is presented which requires a minimum amount of hardware and is as fast as the integrated logic family employed for the implementation. However, the main characteristic of the instrument is the optimum performance from the viewpoint of the orthogonality of the function generated, as it is shown by the experimental verifications reported.

Selective aqueous oxidation of aromatic alcohols under solar light in the presence of TiO2 modified with different metal species

2022

AbstractA set of metals modified TiO2 photocatalysts were prepared starting from titanium tetraisopropoxyde and different metal precursors to study the influence of the addition of the various foreign agents on the physico-chemical and photocatalytic properties of the catalysts. The powders were characterized by X-ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopy, specific surface area measurements, scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, UV–Vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, photoluminescence, temperature programmed desorption after CO2 adsorption. The photocatalytic activity was evaluated using as probe reactions the partial oxidation of three aromatic alcohols: benzyl al…

Site symmetry approach applied to the supercell model of MgAl2O4 spinel with oxygen interstitials: Ab initio calculations

2018

This study has been carried out within the framework of the EUROfusion Consortium and has been provided funding from the Euratom research and training programme 2014-2018 under grant agreement No 633053. The authors are indebted to E.A. Kotomin, A.I. Popov and R. Vila for stimulating discussions. The views and opinions expressed herein do not necessarily reflect those of the European Commission. Calculations have been performed using both the Marconi supercomputer system at the Computational Simulation Centre (Italy) and the Computer Center of St. Petersburg State University.

An Itô Formula for rough partial differential equations and some applications

2020

AbstractWe investigate existence, uniqueness and regularity for solutions of rough parabolic equations of the form $\partial _{t}u-A_{t}u-f=(\dot X_{t}(x) \cdot \nabla + \dot Y_{t}(x))u$ ∂ t u − A t u − f = ( X ̇ t ( x ) ⋅ ∇ + Y ̇ t ( x ) ) u on $[0,T]\times \mathbb {R}^{d}.$ [ 0 , T ] × ℝ d . To do so, we introduce a concept of “differential rough driver”, which comes with a counterpart of the usual controlled paths spaces in rough paths theory, built on the Sobolev spaces Wk,p. We also define a natural notion of geometricity in this context, and show how it relates to a product formula for controlled paths. In the case of transport noise (i.e. when Y = 0), we use this framework to prove a…
