La vocalidad del violín en el norte de Italia en torno a 1600

2021

Throughout the present research I intend to demonstrate the powerful link between the vocal practice in accompanied monody and the way Early Italian violin music ought to be interpreted. Due to the scarce amount of articulation and ornamentation in this music, I consider that historical criteria should be found in order to back up the subjective choices in its performance. According to this, I focus on reviewing sources that describe the vocal practice around 1600, but also contemporary sources in which we can find instructions addressed to bow instruments. Besides, a catalogue of articulations and ornamentations present in early editions of printed violin music is attached. Last, I comment…

Patterns and determinants of adherence to resistance and endurance training during cancer treatment in the Phys-Can RCT.

2022

Abstract Background Knowledge regarding adherence is necessary to improve the specificity of exercise interventions during cancer treatment. We aimed to determine adherence to resistance and endurance training interventions in parallel; identify subgroups with similar adherence characteristics; and examine determinants of these subgroups. Methods In the Phys-Can randomised controlled trial, participants (n = 577, 81% women, mean(SD) age 59(12) years, and 50% with BMI ≥ 25 kg/m2) starting (neo-) adjuvant treatment for breast, colorectal or prostate cancer were randomized to 6-month of high (HI) or low-to-moderate intensity (LMI) supervised, group-based resistance training and individual home…

Promuovere negli uomini la scelta di prepararsi all’esercizio della professione di maestro di scuola primaria

2022

The sixth principle of the Charte de la Ligue Internationale de l’Education Nouvelle of 1921 emphasizes the concept of coeducation. The definition of this concept provides interesting insights to launch a proactive debate on the need to increase the male presence in primary school teaching staff. First of all, some results of empir- ical research that support the request to increase the number of male teachers in the primary school are displayed. Secondly, the most significant measures adopted by some States to promote the figure of the male primary school teacher are described. Finally, a few proposals are made on what could be done in Italy.

Settore M-PED/03 - Didattica E Pedagogia Speciale

Quantitative comparison of new image processing methods for volumetric analysis of left ventricular contrast echocardiograms

2003

An effort has been made to develop image processing methods which allow a definite and precise tracking of the borderline of the ventricle in two-dimensional echocardiograms. Experience is reported with two new methods, which are based on the gray-level rise (GL) and the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) in combined heart-phase-triggered image series. A quantitative comparison of these time-series methods is presented with respect to the interpretation of a single native image (noncontrast image), a single contrast-material image, the corresponding subtraction image, and the corresponding color superposition image. The comparison is based on the calculation of the ejection fraction using the abov…

Integrated prototyping and rendering system for the display of ceramic finds

2017

The project, carried out in collaboration between the Department of Architecture of Palermo and the Archaeological Museum Antonino Salinas of Palermo, proposes a system of integration and reconstruction of ceramic artefacts, using modeling, 3D printing and rendering processes for an integrated museum exhibition system, which the viewers can observe the fragment nearing the re-reconstructed fragment that reconstructs the original morphology and an interactive digital model in which the viewers can also observe the metric aspect and, where present, the decorative apparatus.

Combination of advanced oxidation processes and active carbons adsorption for the treatment of simulated saline wastewater

2016

Abstract In the present work, an integrated process combining three different technologies, i.e. heterogeneous photocatalysis, homogeneous ozonation and adsorption on granular activated carbon (GAC) was used for the treatment of a synthetic solution simulating saline wastewater. The synergistic effects between the different methods enhance the oxidation rate of the organic compounds in the integrated process, so that its use may result sustainable. It has been found that a relatively low oxidation rate is sufficient to obtain the highest synergy between the three technologies and to maximize the performances. In particular, coupling ozonation and photocatalysis resulted in 20% enhancement i…

Spontaneous Interfacial Fragmentation of Inkjet Printed Oil Droplets and Their electrical characterization

2019

This work presents the fabrication of femtoliter-scale oil droplets by inkjet printing based on a novel mechanism for the spontaneous fragmentation at the interface with an immiscible water phase and the electrical characterization of the resulting immersed “daughter” droplets. [1] In particular, picoliter-scale fluorinated oil droplets impact on surfactant laden water phase at moderately high Weber number (101), and are subjected to spreading and capillary instabilities at the water/air interface which ultimately lead to rupture in smaller sized droplets, according to reported models for macroscale droplets systems - [2] the emerging fragmentation results in “daughter” droplets having volu…

Interfacial fragmentation and electrical characterization of inkjet printed dil droplets

2019

This work presents a novel mechanism for the spontaneous fragmentation of picoliter-scale oil droplets at the interface with an immiscible water phase, and the electrical characterization of the resulting immersed “daughter” droplets by an electrical impedance chip (see Figure). [1] In particular, picoliter-scale fluorinated oil droplets are produced by inkjet printing at velocity higher than 5 m/s. Upon impact on the surfactant laden water phase at moderately high Weber number , i.e. around 10, the oil droplet is subjected to spreading and capillary instabilities at the water/air interface. These ultimately lead to its rupture in smaller sized droplets, according to the reported models for…
