Human sweat odour conjugates in human milk, colostrum and amniotic fluid
2012
International audience; Using ultra performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry we identified for the first time glutamine-N-alpha-conjugates of the fatty acids (E)/(Z)-3-methylhex-2-enoic acid and (R)/(S)-3-hydroxy-3-methylhexanoic acid as well as cysteinylglycine-S-conjugates of (R)/(S)-3-methyl-3-sulphanylhexan-1-ol and (R)/(S)-3-sulphanylhexan-1-ol as constituents of human milk and colostrum. The glutamine-N-alpha-conjugates were detected also in human amniotic fluids. The mean values of glutamine-N-alpha-conjugate of (R)/(S)-3-hydroxy-3-methylhexanoic acid were highest in colostrums with a range of <0.1-382 mu g/kg, followed by the mature human milk with values from <0.1 to 39.…
Pharmacological management of cancer pain in children
2014
The aim of this review was to assess cancer pain management in children on the basis of research published in the last ten years. Nine were papers providing clinical data, with a minimum of ten patients. No controlled studies were found. Regardless of general principles and existing recommendations, clinical data should confirm the applicability of this concept. The trials published in the last years did not provide further information to improve cancer pain management in children, because of the experience and the low number of drugs used, reflecting only meaningful opinions of experts in the field. The amount and the quality of data still remain poor, as only 737 subjects (about 80 patien…
Chronic Non-cancer Pain Management in a Tertiary Pain Clinic Network: a Retrospective Study
2022
Introduction: Chronic pain is a distressing condition that should be treated in specialized pain clinics. Pain clinics offer a holistic, evidence-based approach, including pharmacological, complementary, and invasive treatments. This study aimed to provide preliminary information regarding chronic pain treatments and identify reasons for accessing an important hub-spoke pain clinic network. Methods: A retrospective multicenter cross-sectional study was carried out. A total of 1606 patients’ records were included. Patients were selected from the 26 pain clinics of a single region in Italy. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression models were used. Results: Multivariate models showed t…
Psychopathological and psychodynamic hypotheses for pediatric stuttering
2018
Stuttering is a common language alteration in pediatric age consisting in repetitions and blocks, which entail a break in the rhythm and melody of the speech. According to the WHO it is a disorder of the rhythm of the word, the subject knows precisely what he would like to say, but at the same time he is not able to say it. It is a great inconvenience for those affected, also because the slowing down of speaking is not about thought or cognitive skills.
A multicenter study on the appropriateness of hospitalization in obstetric wards: application of Obstetric Appropriateness Evaluation Protocol (Obste…
2015
The cross-sectional study has been based on the implementation of the Obstetric Appropriateness Evaluation Protocol (OAEP) in seven hospitals to determine inappropriate hospital admissions and days of stay. The outcomes were: inappropriateness of admission and "percentage of inappropriateness" for one hospitalization. A total number of 2196 clinical records were reviewed. The mean percentage of inappropriateness for hospitalization was 22%. The percentage of inappropriateness for the first 10 d of hospitalization peaked in correspondence of the fourth (42%). The logistic regression model on inappropriated admission reported that emergency admission was a protective factor (OR = 0.4) and to …
Infantile intranuclear rod myopathy.
1997
This report concerns three unrelated floppy infants, two girls and one boy, each biopsied at the age of 1 month. They were hypotonic since birth and required artificial ventilation. The two girls died at the ages of 4 and 3½ months, respectively, the boy is still alive at the age of 2 years, but requires assisted ventilation. Each of the three infants showed, by muscle biopsy, abundant intranuclear rods, the boy and one girl also had sarcoplasmic rods, which were not present in the other girl's muscle. Absence of sarcoplasmic rods, but the presence of intranuclear rods could also be documented in her autopsied muscle. Using an antibody against α-actinin, immunoelectron microscopy showed re…
Nurses' perception of the oncology patient's death: a qualitative study

The sample of nurses was recruited at IRCCS (Scientific Institute for Research and Healthcare) in Rome, a hospice in Latina and a hospice in Rieti. The data were collected by means of focus groups. The semi-structured interviews featuring three…
STUDIO DELL'ATTIVITA' ELETTRICA GASTRICA CON ELETTROGASTROGRAFIA IN NEONATI PRETERMINE
2000
