Prognostic significance of p16INK4a alterations and 9p21 loss of heterozigosity in locally advanced laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma

The p16INK4a gene, localized within chromosome 9p21, has been identified as a cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor and may negatively regulate the cell cycle acting as a tumor suppressor. Genetic alterations involving the 9p21 region are common in human cancers. A consecutive series of 64 untreated patients (median of follow up 53 months) undergoing surgical resection for locally advanced laryngeal squamous-cell carcinomas (LSCCs) has been studied prospectively. Lipid and apoprotein composition of HDL in partial or complete CETP deficiency

Hyperalphalipoproteinemia, as observed in patients who are either homozygous or heterozygous for cholesteryl ester transfer protein (CETP) deficiency, has been shown to be associated with striking changes in apolipoprotein size distribution, namely, of high-density lipoprotein (HDL) and HDL-like particles. Heterogeneous nucleation of colloidal melts under the influence of shearing fields

Large, oriented single crystals may be obtained from shear melts of colloidal particles after nucleation at the container walls. We are here interested in the processes occurring during the initial phase of their formation. Using different microscopic and scattering techniques we here studied highly charged suspensions of spherical particles, dispersed in low salt or deionized water, in single and double wall confinement, during and after cessation of shear. Analysis of the hydrodynamics of a periodically operated trickle-bed reactor—A shock wave velocity

Abstract The relationship describing the shock wave velocity was formulated for the trickle-bed reactor operating at periodically changed feeding the bed with liquid phase. The values of shock wave velocity calculated from derived equations were compared with experimental values obtained for both fast and slow mode of base–pulse periodic liquid feeding and using liquids differing in physicochemical properties. A good agreement between these two sets of values of shock wave velocity was obtained. It has to be emphasized that the relationship (Eq. (26) ) derived in this study enables to estimate the values of the shock wave velocity when only mean values of variables of a process are known.

The analytical signal is a complex representation of a time domain signal: the real part is the time domain signal itself, while the imaginary part is its Hilbert transform.
