Identification and quantification of phosphatidylcholines containing very long chain polyunsaturated fatty acid (VLC-PUFA) in bovine and human retina…

2010

The retina is one of the vertebrate tissues with the highest content in polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA). A large proportion of the retinal glycerophospholipids, especially those found in photoreceptor membranes, are dipolyunsaturated molecular species. Among them, dipolyunsaturated phosphatidylcholine molecular species are known to contain very long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (VLC-PUFA) from the n-3 and n-6 series and having 24 to 36 carbon atoms (C24 to C36) and four to six double bonds. Recent interest in the role of VLC-PUFA arose from the findings that a protein named ELOngation of Very Long chain fatty acids 4 (ELOVL4) is involved in their biosynthesis and that mutations in E…

The odour of human milk: Its chemical variability and detection by newborns

2019

International audience; Human milk odour has for long elicited research interest with regard to its function in breastfeeding initiation. The present review aims to provide an overview of the behavioural effects of human milk odour in the human neonate, considering different types of response measures in a feeding or non-feeding context. Further, an overview of the current knowledge of odorant composition and factors influencing milk odour is provided by summarizing results from analytical studies using olfactometry, and addressing changes in milk odour due to storage, lactational stage, and maternal dietary intake of odorous substances. We finally highlight some issues for future research.

Measurement of the soliton number in guiding media through continuum generation.

2020

No general approach is available yet to measure directly the ratio between chromatic dispersion and the nonlinear coefficient, and hence the soliton number for a given optical pulse, in an arbitrary guiding medium. Here we solve this problem using continuum generation. We experimentally demonstrate our method in polarization-maintaining and single-mode fibers with positive and negative chromatic dispersion. Our technique also offers new opportunities to determine the chromatic dispersion of guiding media over a broad spectral range while pumping at a fixed wavelength. Modelling of systems with dispersed phase

2013

We shall describe some models of systems containing disperse phase and their rigorous derivation as the macroscopic limit of suitable microscopic models in which the dispersed phase is associated to a particle-like component.

A software receiver adaptive phase lock loop method

2009

The aim of this paper is to introduce a new and relatively simple algorithm which is capable to tune the parameters of the loop filter in a phase lock loop, like the one that can be found in a global navigation satellite system receiver. The parameters are chosen while the system is running, in order to make the bandwidth of the filter adaptive with respect to the signal dynamic and strength. A wider bandwidth is obtained to make the filter more reactive when searching the carrier, while the bandwidth gets narrower when the system is in the tracking state, in order to cut off as much noise as possible. The algorithm is based on the observation of the estimated variance of the phase lock loo…

Role of the support and pseudo-liquid phase in the Phosphotungstic Heteropolyacid (photo)catalytic activity

2016

Catalytic and photocatalytic tests for propene hydration to 2-propanol were successfully carried out by using binary materials obtained by supporting a Keggin or Wells-Dawson heteropolyacids via impregnation method to commercial SiO2 or TiO2. (Photo)catalytic hydration was studied in gas-solid regime by using a continuous (photo)reactor working at atmospheric pressure and 80 °C. The alcohol was the main product. The acidity of the cluster accounts for the catalytic role, whereas both the acidity of the cluster and the oxidant ability were responsible for the increase of the reaction rate of the photo-assisted catalytic reaction. Moreover, the presence of a photoactive semiconductor support …
