L'opera di Francesco Maria da Lecce alla luce dei dati dell'Archivio di Propaganda Fide

2017

Firmly based on documents treasured in the Archive of Propaganda Fide in Rome, Gëzim Gurga reconstructs the most salient moments in the life of the missionary Francesco Maria da Lecce. The Franciscan is famous for having fathered the first ever Albanian grammar published by the title of Osservazioni grammaticali nella lingua Albanese (1716), as well as a remarkable Italian-Albanian dictionary. In his study, the author recounts the tough social and cultural conditions which the Albanian Catholics were living in during the Ottoman rule. A lot of attention, on the other hand is devoted to the efforts of the missionaries in the struggle against apostasy, to the promotion of faith and crypto-Chr…

LU Filoloģijas un filozofijas fakultātes bibliotēkas krājuma veidošanās pirmskara periodā

2017

The faculties of the humanities of the newly established University of Latvia had to create their libraries from the ground up, as opposed to the technical libraries who had partly preserved the stocks from the departments of the predecessor, the RPI. Books for the library of the Faculty of Philology and Philosophy were obtained through governmental allocations, purchases, and donations, and so it grew from 350 books in 1919 to more than 40 thousand in 1939. This article explores the first years of the formation of library holdings.

Wrede, Ferdinand (1863–1934)

2006

Ferdinand Wrede was born in Berlin and, after having received his doctor's degree, he was a collaborator on the Sprachatlas des Deutschen Reichs [Linguistic atlas of the ‘Deutsches Reich’] project in Marburg, and later on, full Professor of Germanic philology. Wrede's fundamental studies first were concerned with Germanic: the languages of the Vandals and the Ostrogoths. In 1908, he founded the series Deutsche Dialektgeographie in which dialect monographs, mostly on the basis of direct investigations (other than Wenker's indirect method), were published. He initiated many scientific projects, e.g., the Hessen-Nassauisches Worterbuch, an area dialect dictionary, he interpreted dialect maps, …

Sulla nuova edizione critica del Canzoniere di Guidotto Prestinari

2021

This note refers to the recent publication of the critical edition of the Canzoniere by Guidotto Prestinari, a fifteenth-sixteenth-century poet from Bergamo, prepared by Marco Robecchi. This is an excellent edition, which fits well into the current panorama of studies on “minor” Italian poetry between the fourteenth and sixteenth centuries.

Esclusioni etniche nei regolamenti cultuali greci: la norma di Paros (IG XII 5, 225)

2019

This study aims to examine a well-known inscription (IG XII.5, 225) dated to the mid-fifth century BC and found in Paroikia, near the acropolis of the ancient polis of Paros. It shows a typical formula of access limitation to local cults: according to most scholars, the cult in question is to be identified with the worship of Kore Astos (the Citizen), who is mentioned in the second line. The Dorians are excluded from this cult, as is shown by the expression (xenoi Dorie) appearing at the beginning of the text in a very relevant position. On the basis of a close comparison between this text and other epigraphs as well as literary documents containing proscriptions which prevent foreigners fr…
