CODEX Weak Lensing Mass Catalogue and implications on the mass-richness relation

The COnstrain Dark Energy with X-ray clusters (CODEX) sample contains the largest flux limited sample of X-ray clusters at $0.35 = \alpha \mu + \beta$, with $\mu = \ln (M_{200c}/M_{\mathrm{piv}})$, and $M_{\mathrm{piv}} = 10^{14.81} M_{\odot}$. We find a slope $\alpha = 0.49^{+0.20}_{-0.15}$, normalization $ \exp(\beta) = 84.0^{+9.2}_{-14.8}$ and $\sigma_{\ln \lambda | \mu} = 0.17^{+0.13}_{-0.09}$ using CFHT richness estimates. In comparison to other weak lensing richness-mass relations, we find the normalization of the richness statistically agreeing with the normalization of other scaling relations from a broad redshift range ($0.0<z<0.65$) and with different cluster selection (X-ray, Sun…

Holocene climate variability in Sicily from a discontinuous stalagmite record and the Mesolithic to Neolithic transition

AbstractFabric and stable isotopic composition of a Holocene stalagmite (CR1) from a cave in northern Sicily record changes in paleorainfall in the early Holocene. High δ13C stable isotope values in the calcite deposited from ca. 8500 to ca. 7500 yr ago are interpreted as reflecting periods of high rainfall. The wet phase was interrupted by two periods of multi-century duration characterized by relatively cool and dry winters centered at ca. 8200 and ca. 7500 yr ago, highlighted by low δ13C and δ18O values. Bulk composition of northern African dust and its source sediments — A compilation

Abstract This paper presents a review of bulk compositional data of northern African dust and its potential source sediments and includes elemental, isotope and mineralogical data. Northern African dust represents about one half of the total global atmospheric mineral dust burden, and its uplift, transport and deposition have strong impacts on climate and various terrestrial and marine ecosystems. Abstract. The geochemical signature of many speleothems used for reconstruction of past continental climates is affected by kinetic isotope fractionation. This limits quantitative paleoclimate reconstruction and, in cases where the kinetic fractionation varies with time, also affects relative paleoclimate interpretations. In carbonate archive research, clumped isotope thermometry is typically used as proxy for absolute temperatures. In the case of speleothems, however, clumped isotopes provide a sensitive indicator for disequilibrium effects. Bulk carbonate isotope stratigraphy from CRP-3 core (Victoria Land Basin, Antarctica): evidence for Eocene–Oligocene palaeoclimatic evolution

Bulk carbonate isotope compositions and carbonate petrography from upper Eocene and lower Oligocene siliciclastic sediments of the CRP-3 sediment core (Victoria Land Basin, Antarctica) have been investigated with the aim of contributing to reconstruction of the Antarctic Cenozoic palaeoclimate. Most of the carbonate is calcite cement occurring as patches, nodules and horizons and consisting of equant and/or drusy sparry calcite, pervasive blocky calcite and rare poikilotopic calcite spar. 18O-depleted values (from −17 to −8 δ‰) of the CRP-3 carbonates suggest that the precipitating fluids were a mixing between marine and meteoric waters from melting glaciers.
