VLT/Flames spectroscopic data of NGC 6530

Mechanisms regulating the evolution of pre-main sequence stars can be understood by studying stellar properties such as rotation, disk accretion, internal mixing and binarity. To investigate such properties, we studied a sample of 332 candidate members of the massive and populous star forming region NGC 6530. We want to select cluster members by using different membership criteria, to study the properties of pre-main sequence stars with or without circumstellar disks. Abundance signature of M dwarf stars

Most of our current knowledge on planet formation is still based on the analysis of main-sequence, solar-type stars. Conversely, detailed chemical studies of large samples of M-dwarf planet hosts are still missing. We aim to test whether the correlations between the metallicity, individual chemical abundances, and mass of the star and the presence of different type of planets found for FGK stars still holds for the less massive M dwarf stars. X-ray surveys are a very efficient mean of detecting young stars and therefore allow us to study the young stellar population in the solar neighborhood and the local star formation history in the last billion of years. The XMM-Newton Extended Survey of the Taurus Molecular Cloud (XEST) surveys the most populated ~5 square degrees of the Taurus Molecular Cloud, using the XMM-Newton X-ray observatory to study the thermal structure, variability, and long-term evolution of hot plasma, to investigate the magnetic dynamo, and to search for new potential members of the association. We present overall correlations with fundamental stellar parameters that were derived from the previous literature. BVRI photometry of high-mass X-ray binaries

We present photometric observations of the field around the optical counterparts of high-mass X-ray binaries. Our aim is to study the long-term photometric variability in correlation with their X-ray activity and derive a set of secondary standard stars that can be used for time series analysis. We find that the donors in Be/X-ray binaries exhibit larger amplitude changes in the magnitudes and colours than those hosting a supergiant companion. The amplitude of variability increases with wavelength in Be/X-ray binaries and remains fairly constant in supergiant systems. The B0.5IVe CoRoT target HD 49 330. I. Photometric analysis from CoRoT data

Context. Be stars undergo outbursts producing a circumstellar disk from the ejected material. The beating of non-radial pulsations has been put forward as a possible mechanism of ejection. Aims. We analyze the pulsational behavior of the early B0.5IVe star HD 49330 observed during the first CoRoT long run towards the Galactical anticenter (LRA1). This Be star is located close to the lower edge of the β Cephei instability strip in the HR diagram and showed a 0.03 mag outburst during the CoRoT observations. Bending relativistic jets in AGNs

We present simulations of relativistic jets propagating in a nonuniform medium. Specifically, we study the bending of jets propagating obliquely to the vector of the density-gradient. Our results are applied to the NGC 4258, where such a medium is assumed to be provided by the atmosphere of the sub-parsec accretion disk tilted with respect to the original direction of the jet propagation. As a result, the jet is bent on a scale comparable to the density scaleheight of the disk atmosphere. The magnitude of the bending effect is found to be largest for light jets with low Lorentz factors. The predicted direction of bending is consistent with the observations.

Evidence of H alpha periodicities in LS I+61303

We present the results of analyzing H$\alpha$ spectra of the radio emitting X-ray binary LS I+61303. For the first time, the same 26.5 d radio period is clearly detected in the H$\alpha$ emission line. Moreover, the equivalent width and the peak separation of the H$\alpha$ emission line seem also to vary over a time scale of 1600 days. This points towards the $\sim4$ yr modulation, detected in the radio outburst amplitude, being probably a result of variations in the mass loss rate of the Be star and/or density variability in the circumstellar disk. OBSERVATION OF THE TeV GAMMA-RAY SOURCE MGRO J1908+06 WITH ARGO-YBJ

The extended gamma ray source MGRO J1908+06, discovered by the Milagro air shower detector in 2007, has been observed for about 4 years by the ARGO-YBJ experiment at TeV energies, with a statistical significance of 6.2 standard deviations. The peak of the signal is found at a position consistent with the pulsar PSR J1907+0602. Parametrizing the source shape with a two-dimensional Gauss function we estimate an extension \sigma = 0.49 \pm 0.22 degrees, consistent with a previous measurement by the Cherenkov Array H.E.S.S.. Microlensing of the Fe K$\alpha$ line and the X-ray continuum

The observed enhancement of the Fe K$\alpha$ line in three gravitationally lensed QSOs (MG J0414+0534, QSO 2237+0305, H1413+117) is interpreted in terms of microlensing, even when equivalent X-ray continuum amplification is not observed. In order to interpret these observations, first we studied the effects of microlensing on quasars spectra, produced by straight fold caustic crossing over standard relativistic accretion disk.
