Microbial dynamics during green Sicilian table olive fermentations

The production of green table olives is traditionally a spontaneous fermentation carried out by indigenous microflora. Variability of microbial raw material may result in changes in the qualitative aspects of final products (Silvestri et al., 2009). Table olives of five different green table olive cultivars (four Sicilian Brandofino, Castriciana, Nocellara del Belice and Passalunara and the Spanish Manzanilla) were produced according to a semi-industrial technology, in which lactic acid bacteria (LAB) role is partially replaced by lactic acid addiction. Celem pracy było rozpoznanie wpływu zanieczyszczeń komunikacyjnych na glebę i roślinność uprawnianą przy pasie drogowym. Zanieczyszczenia te, to nie tylko spaliny, ale również pyły powstające w wyniku tarcia opon o nawierzchnie drogi, płyny wyciekające z nieszczelnych instalacji oraz śmieci wyrzucane przez kierowców w trakcie jazdy. Roślina bytująca w takim środowisku, jest narażona na liczne stresy i uszkodzenia. Główną przyczyną wpływającą niekorzystnie na rozwój roślin, a nawet powodującą ich śmierć, jest potęgujące się stale zanieczyszczenie powietrza, zwłaszcza w rejonach śródmiejskich jak i wzdłuż obciążonych tras komunikacyjnych. En este trabajo se analizan algunos de los obstáculos que están dificultando la implicación de diferentes sectores sociales en la adopción de las medidas necesarias para hacer frente a la actual situación de emergencia planetaria. En particular, analizamos la supuesta confrontación entre educación ambiental y educación para la sostenibilidad. Intentaremos mostrar que no existen razones para dicho antagonismo, sino que responde a malentendidos que es urgente deshacer, porque entorpecen la necesaria convergencia de esfuerzos para lograr una formación ciudadana que haga comprender la gravedad de la situación y prepare para participar en la toma de decisiones. Ballota L. comprises several relevant species largely used for their excellent therapeutic properties. Ballota hispanica (L.) Benth. is widely used in herbal medicine, and it is sold in herbalist shops for its sedative and antispasmodic properties. Šajā promocijas darbā ir apkopoti 2006.-2013. gadā veikto pētījumu rezultāti, kuros ir analizēta vides pārveidotības pakāpe Daugavpilī. Pētījumā tiek izmantotas trīs dažādu indikatoru grupas – neofītās vaskulārās augu sugas, epifītie ķērpji un priežu miza. Neofītās augu sugas inventarizētas visos 344 pilsētas kvadrātos, lihenoindikācijas dati iegūti no 82 kvadrātiem, metālu saturs priežu mizās noteikts 50 paraugvietās. Iegūtie rezultāti liecina, ka augstākās Daugavpilī pētīto ķīmisko elementu koncentrācijas priežu mizā konstatētas industriālo objektu tuvumā, lihenoindikācijas zemākie rādītāji saistāmi ar pilsētas centrālo daļu, ko raksturo blīvs ceļu tīkls un intensīva satiksme, kā arī priv…

Pieniny Mts. are important biodiversity hotspot in Central Europe. According to Pieniny National Park Long Term Conservation Plan 2000-2020 small, isolated populations of some of Pieniny NP flagship species can become extinct till 2020. That is why their ex situ preservation at seed bank is justified and reasonable as supplement of active and passive in situ conservation measures carried out by National Park staff.
