Sustainability in Hospitality Marketing during the COVID-19 Pandemic. Content Analysis of Consumer Empirical Research

2021

This study performs content analysis of consumer empirical research dealing with sustainability issues in hospitality marketing literature during the outbreak of COVID-19. Papers published in the Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI) ranked hospitality journals from January 2020 up to and including May 2021 are reviewed. The total of 46 papers met the search criteria and were subject to content analysis. The reviewed papers are classified based on research topics, variables, and themes

Innovative educational program for biogas production carried out at University of Hradec Králové (CZ) and at University of Opole (PL)

2016

W ostatnim czasie rośnie nacisk na budowę biogazowni rolniczych, szczególnie w czesko-polskim regionie przygranicznym. Jest to region, gdzie występują duże obszary gruntów rolnych mogących służyć do zasilania biogazowni. Strategia ta powinna przyczynić się do harmonizacji wspólnej polityki rolnej Unii Europejskiej. W związku z powyższym wzrasta również potrzeba wykształcenia wykwalifikowanych operatorów tych stacji. Pierwsza część pracy obejmuje prezentację akademickiego programu edukacyjnego w dziedzinie fermentacji beztlenowej odpadów i wytwarzania biogazu pochodzącego z produkcji rolnej. Zaprezentowano część innowacyjnego podejścia, które wykorzystywane jest w programie nauczania „Pomiar…

Ethical Versus Conventional Banking: A Case Study

2018

The 2008 financial crisis has changed the structure of banking, generating public distrust in the conventional financial system. An alternative has emerged as a result of this lack of confidence. This alternative is known as ethical banking. A growing number of investors, asset managers, and financial intermediaries have incorporated sustainability considerations into their business practices. This paper discusses the origins of ethical banking and describes its primary characteristics. The goal is to determine whether ethical banking can be as profitable as conventional banking despite only investing in projects based on social values. A comparative analysis is performed to identify differ…

How do remuneration committees affect corporate social responsibility disclosure? empirical evidence from an international perspective

2022

The main goal of this study is to analyze whether the existence of remuneration committees tend to disclose more corporate social responsibility (CSR) information. In addition, we test the moderating role played by the proportion of independent directors on boards of directors with the relationship between the constitution of remuneration committees and CSR disclosure. Previous research does not appear to have addressed these questions. The research questions proposed are tested using an international sample of 28,610 listed companies, and we took into consideration information on industrial companies from the Middle East, developed Asian and Pacific countries, both emerging and developed E…

Developing and Validating a Behavioural Model of Cyberinsurance Adoption

2021

Business disruption from cyberattacks is a growing concern, yet cyberinsurance uptake remains low. Using an online behavioural economics experiment with 4800 participants across four EU countries, this study tests a predictive model of cyberinsurance adoption, incorporating elements of Protection Motivation Theory (PMT) and the Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB) as well as factors in relation to risk propensity and price. During the experiment, participants were given the opportunity to purchase different cybersecurity measures and cyberinsurance products before performing an online task. Participants likelihood of suffering a cyberattack was dependent upon their adoption of cybersecurity me…

Impact of Wind Electricity Forecasts on Bidding Strategies

2017

The change in the generation mix from conventional electricity sources to renewables has important implications for bidding behaviour and may have an impact on prices. The main goal of this work is to discover the role played by expected wind production, together with other relevant factors, in explaining the day-ahead market price through a data panel model. The Spanish market, given the huge increase in wind generation observed in the last decade, has been chosen for this study as a paradigmatic example. The results obtained suggest that wind power forecasts are a new key determinant for supply market participants when bidding in the day-ahead market. We also provide a conservative quanti…

Unmanned aerial vehicle application for mapping individual plants: the case of the Nebrodi beech forest

2015

The UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles) are small unmanned aircraft remote controlled electronically, commonly called "drones", which can serve as a vector to carry one or more sensors for georeferenced digital image capture. The development of these platforms is begun in the 50s for military purposes and is today successfully applied in the civil sphere with levels of technology and higher performance. It is a remote sensing technique to the scale of detail that allows for monitoring, measuring and mapping of several environmental data in a short time. The use of NDIR sensors (Non Dispersive Infrared sensor) for the detection of plant cover, allows discriminating plant species, mapping individ…

The Diversification of Sicilian Farms: A Way to Sustainable Rural Development

2021

Rural areas still suffer from a lack of sustainable development, and the diversification of farms may be a step in the right direction. The paper provides a detailed picture of the diversification of Sicilian farms into tourism services. Specifically, we propose a simple indicator of localization intensity of agritourism farms and explore their spatial distribution at municipality level. Our study highlights that Sicilian farms rarely diversify into tourism services, despite being situated in attractive areas. That said, some significant spatial clusters of municipalities where agritourism farms are highly concentrated do emerge from the study.

Consistent phenological shifts in the making of a biodiversity hotspot: the Cape flora

2011

Abstract Background The best documented survival responses of organisms to past climate change on short (glacial-interglacial) timescales are distributional shifts. Despite ample evidence on such timescales for local adaptations of populations at specific sites, the long-term impacts of such changes on evolutionary significant units in response to past climatic change have been little documented. Here we use phylogenies to reconstruct changes in distribution and flowering ecology of the Cape flora - South Africa's biodiversity hotspot - through a period of past (Neogene and Quaternary) changes in the seasonality of rainfall over a timescale of several million years. Results Forty-three dist…
