The production and distribution of food are among the hot topics debated in the context of sustainable development. Short food supply chains (SFSCs) are now widely believed to be more sustainable in comparison to mass food delivery systems. To date, very little quantitative evidence exists on the impacts of various types of food supply chains. On the Substitutability between Paid-employment and Self-employment: Evidence from the Period 1969–2014 in the United States

This paper provides estimates of the elasticity of substitution between operational and managerial jobs in the US economy during the years 1969–2014, derived from an aggregate CES production function. Estimating the long-term relationship between (the log of) the aggregate employment/self-employment ratio and (the log of) the returns from paid-employment relative to self-employment and testing for structural breaks, we report different estimates of the elasticity of substitution in each of the two regimes identified. Hieracium hypochoeroides subsp. peracutisquamum, a new taxon endemic to Basilicata (southern Italy), is described and illustrated. It is confined to the carbonate rocks of Monte della Madonna di Viggiano (Lucanian Apennine, SW Basilicata). Information on its ecology and taxonomic relationships is provided.

Dzięki coraz nowocześniejszym i powszechniej stosowanym metodom bioindykacji można dokonać precyzyjnej i stosunkowo wydajnej oceny stanu środowiska naturalnego oraz zmian w nim zachodzących.Wymiernym sposobem monitoringu przyrody są obserwacje reakcji żywych organizmów. Badania przeprowadza się głównie z użyciem stenobiontów, czyli taksonów o małej tolerancji na zmienność warunków środowiska. Grupę roślin oraz zwierząt wykorzystywanych w badaniach bioindykacyjnych nazywa się wskaźnikowymi.Bioindykacja znajduje zastosowanie w geologii poszukiwawczej do odnajdywania miejsc z możliwością pozyskania cennych kruszców oraz w ochronie środowiska do monitoringu stanu jego zanieczyszczenia.
