Photoelectron-holography using circularly polarized light

1999

Abstract Circular dichroism in the angular distribution of photoelectrons (CDAD) is not only observed from aligned initial states, but also as a consequence of the scattering of photoelectrons at the surrounding atoms in a solid or an adsorbate. Using the analytical result for the CDAD, we show that it is an integral transformation of the product of the angular momentum of the emitted electron and the Fourier-transformed scattering potential of the surrounding atoms. Therefore, we interpret the CDAD pattern as photoelectron-hologram. The real space distribution of atoms can be reconstructed by an inverse integral transformation of the CDAD pattern, which carries the full phase-information. …

Helicity dependence of the total inclusive cross section on the deuteron

2009

Abstract A measurement of the helicity dependence of the total inclusive photoabsorption cross section on the deuteron was carried out at MAMI (Mainz) in the energy range 200 E γ 800 MeV . The experiment used a 4 π detection system, a circularly polarized tagged photon beam and a frozen spin target which provided longitudinally polarized deuterons. These new results are a significant improvement on the existing data and allow a detailed comparison with state-of-the-art calculations.

High-order-harmonic generation in dimensionally reduced systems

2013

The time-dependent wave function of a nanoring driven by a laser field is obtained by exploiting the symmetries inherent to the system and used for studying the properties of the electromagnetic radiation emitted by the nanoring as a function of the polarization state of the laser. The diffused radiation has the characteristics of high-order-harmonic generation. For a noncircularly polarized laser field an extension of the expected cutoff position is evident, indicating that nanorings are efficient sources of radiation. The polarization state of the emitted harmonics can be opportunely controlled by varying the parameters of the pump field. The profile of the absorbed angular moment shows t…

Manipulation of Atoms and Molecules with Laser Radiation and External Fields

2006

The paper provides analysis of a process, when a laser radiation absorption of a specific polarization creates a specific spatial distribution of molecular bonds and angular momenta of small molecules. It is discussed how an external fields electric or magnetic can influence this distribution. Some practical examples involving optical polarization of molecules in magnetic and electric fields are presented.1

Evidence for degenerate mirrorless lasing in alkali metal vapor: forward beam magneto-optical experiment

2018

We report an experimental observation of degenerate mirrorless lasing in forward direction under excitation of a dilute atomic Rb vapor with a single linearly polarized cw laser light resonant with cycling Fe > Fg atomic D2 transitions. Light polarized orthogonally to the laser light is generated for the input light intensity exceeding a threshold value of about 3 mW/cm^2. Application of a transverse magnetic field directed along the input light polarization reveals a sharp about 20 mG wide magnetic resonance centered at B = 0. Increasing the incident light intensity from 3 to 300 mW/cm^2, the generated light undergoes rapid amplitude increase followed by a decline and resonance broadeni…

Alignment-to-orientation conversion in a magnetic field at nonlinear excitation of theD2line of rubidium: Experiment and theory

2015

We studied alignment-to-orientation conversion caused by excited-state level crossings in a nonzero magnetic field of both atomic rubidium isotopes. Experimental measurements were performed on the transitions of the $D_2$ line of rubidium. These measured signals were described by a theoretical model that takes into account all neighboring hyperfine transitions, the mixing of magnetic sublevels in an external magnetic field, the coherence properties of the exciting laser radiation, and the Doppler effect. In the experiments laser induced fluorescence (LIF) components were observed at linearly polarized excitation and their difference was taken afterwards. By observing the two oppositely circ…

Angular shift of an electromagnetic beam reflected by a planar dielectric interface

1989

A mathematical procedure for obtaining theoretically an expression for the fields of a beam reflected by a planar interface separating two lossless, linear, isotropic, homogeneous media is presented. Comparison of this expression with that obtained when the beam undergoes reflection from a perfect conductor leads to the expression for the angular shift of the beam reflected by a planar dielectric interface. The cases of normal and parallel polarization of a microwave beam are considered. In the last case, a complete study for angles of incidence far and near the Brewster angle is made.

Laser spatial profile effects in measurements of impulsive molecular alignment

2005

0953-4075; We use a non-intrusive technique based on a polarization scheme to probe the periodic alignment of the CO2 and N2 molecules induced by a strong laser pulse linearly polarized. A weak probe field experiences the birefringence resulting from the alignment of the molecules. By comparing the probe depolarization signal with the numerical simulation of the time-dependent Schrödinger equation, it is possible to quantify the alignment of the molecular sample. The modelling takes into account the spatial profile of the pump intensity. It allows from the alignment signal to determine the onset of saturation due to ionization, despite the intrinsic saturation of the alignment arising for a…

Modulational instability processes in optical isotropic fibers under dual- frequency circular polarization pumping

2002

Experiments are presented showing that, under dual-frequency, circular polarization pumping, host modulational instability processes can be generated in a single-mode isotropic fiber by careful tuning of the frequency spacing between the pumps.
