Current Social and Rangeland Access Trends among Pastoralists in the Western Algerian Steppe
2021
International audience; In the western Algerian steppe, the public authorities have carried out actions aimed at rural development (agricultural development programs) and combating desertification (grazing reserves) to counter the significant and rapid loss of vegetation cover of pastures by overgrazing, and the consequent impacts on local livelihoods. In the Rogassa area, these actions have impacted land tenure and the ancestral and collective way of land use and access. These changes have caused transformations in lifestyle and pasture management. This research aims to characterize how such changes are affecting local pastoralists and what their perceptions are about them. A selective sam…

The triumph of partisanship: political scientists in the public debate about Catalonia's independence crisis (2010-2018)
2021
Participation in the public debate constitutes one of the most evident avenues for political scientists to demonstrate the social relevance of the discipline. This article focuses on two questions: the types of roles political scientists adopt in their public interventions and the potential tensions between their public engagement and the epistemic norms regulating academic and research activities. We investigate these questions in the context of very salient political debates, involving a high degree of political confrontation, where basic political beliefs, values, identities, and interests are at stake. Focusing on the case of the public debate surrounding the Catalan inde pendence crisi…

Glaucus and the Importance of Being Earnest. Herodotus 6.86 on Memory and Trust, Oath and Pain
2013
It is above all in the archaic cultures, when the discrimen between religious and political facts is not yet clearly defined and there lacks an autonomous law system, which the oath discloses its irreplaceable role which supports the memory, safeguarding social dynamics in all its public or private forms. The wealth of the cases presented in the Histories by Herodotus offers a phenomenology of the oath, useful to illustrate the mechanisms and the coherent symbolic universe of reference. The oaths illustrate, in an exemplary manner, the search for guarantees against neglect, mutability and deception with gestures that evoke images of irrevocability, with the use of immanent and durable items…
The 18th-century traditions of representation in a new age of revolution : History politics in the Swedish and Finnish parliaments, 1917−1919
2014
What happened to shared historical experiences in the discursive processes of constitutional reform in Sweden and Finland? This article examines the use of 18th-century history in early 20th-century politics. Building on a long-term survey of Swedish and Finnish estate and parliamentary debates, it analyses the political implications of differing national historiographies in the two successor states of the 18th-century Swedish realm, focusing on how the ancient past and collective (and often selective) memories of the Age of Absolutism, the Age of Liberty and the Gustavian Age were used by parliamentarians in constitutional debates. The analysis demonstrates how the Finnish polity continued…
Las trayectorias habitacionales de los residentes suburbanos
2017
The suburban housing is a privileged urban form by French households for several decades. Nevertheless, the suburban residential trajectories are diversified and involve a population which is not less heterogeneous. From the literature and our field work, this contribution returns on the interests of residential trajectories approach and highlights the factors which connect the set of the inhabitants who, at one time or another of their trajectory, opted for this type of individual housing. Leaning on some discriminating variables (social, occupational, economic, life cycle…), a typology of suburban will come to conclude this article.
Dietetica e politica: regimi di senso.
2021
Usually when we use the word "diet" in contemporary culture, the first thing that comes to mind is the slimming diet. And, with it, everything in the collective imagination: calories, reducing quantities, giving up quantities, giving up the tastiest foods, and also instructions, manuals periodic checks, scales and so on. But the word 'diet' comes from the ancient Greek dìaita meaning 'way of life', 'daily habits'. What is meant by diet, then, can also be extended in reference to today: not only, in the strict sense, a programme to lose weight but a way of life, a way of regulating one's day, food choices, physical exercise, body care. This is how we will consider it: in the sense of regime …
Politiche della cucina: una prospettiva semiotica
2021
The title of the famous 2003 film by Tassos Boulmetis uses a hyponym in Italian (A touch of ginger), as it happens in Spanish (Un toque de canela). In English it was preferred to use a hypernym (A Touch of Spices). In Portuguese (O tempero da vida) the theme of spices disappears but the idea of essentiality remains, as a gustatory metaphor (salt is taste by definition), of the detail that makes the difference. The original Greek reads Πολìτικη Κουζìνα, an expression with a double semantic value, given that we can translate it either as The kitchen of the city (understood as Istanbul, the urban center that invests the heart of the story) or, better, as Political kitchen. This plethora of tit…
