Influence of theZ/EIsomerism on the Pathway Complexity of a Squaramide‐Based Macrocycle

2020

The rising interest on pathway complexity in supramolecular polymerization has prompted the finding of novel monomer designs able to stabilize kinetically trapped species and generate supramolecular polymorphs. In the present work, the exploitation of the Z/E (geometrical) isomerism of squaramide (SQ) units to produce various self-assembled isoforms and complex supramolecular polymerization pathways in methylcyclohexane/CHCl3 mixtures is reported for the first time. This is achieved by using a new bissquaramidic macrocycle (MSq) that self-assembles into two markedly different thermodynamic aggregates, AggA (discrete cyclic structures) and AggB (fibrillar structures), depending on the solven…

Multivariate Assessment of Procedures for Molecularly Imprinted Polymer Synthesis for Pesticides Determination in Environmental and Agricultural Samp…

2021

In the case of quantitative and qualitative analysis of pesticides in environmental and food samples, it is required to perform a sample pre-treatment process. It allows to minimalize the impact of interferences on the final results, as well as increase the recovery rate. Nowadays, apart from routinely employed sample preparation techniques such as solid-phase extraction (SPE) or solid-phase microextraction (SPME), the application of molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) is gaining greater popularity. It is mainly related to their physicochemical properties, sorption capacity and selectivity, thermo-mechanical resistance, as well as a wide range of polymerization techniques allowing to obta…

Effect of the applied organic load rate on biodegradable polymer production by mixed microbial cultures in a Sequencing Batch Reactor

2006

This article studies the operation of a new process for the production of biopolymers (polyhydroxyalkanoates, PHAs) at different applied organic load rates (OLRs). The process is based on the aerobic enrichment of activated sludge to obtain mixed cultures able to store PHAs at high rates and yields. A mixture of acetic, lactic, and propionic acids at different concentrations (in the range 8.5-31.25 gCOD/L) was fed every 2 h in a sequencing batch reactor (SBR). The resulting applied OLR was in the range 8.5-31.25 gCOD/L/day. Even though, as expected, the increase in the OLR caused an increase in biomass concentration (up to about 8.7 g COD/L), it also caused a relevant decrease of maximal po…

nalysis, Modeling and Simulation of Mechatronic Systems using the Bond Graph Method

2011

The Bond Graph is the proper choice of physical system used for: (i) Modeling which can be applied to systems combining multidisciplinary energy domains, (ii) Analysis to provide a great value proposition for finding the algebraic loops within the system enabling the process of troubleshooting and eliminating the defects by using the proper component(s) to fix the causality conflict even without being acquainted in the proper system, and (iii) Simulation facilitated through derived state space equations from the Bond Graph model is solved using industrial simulation software, such as 20-Sim. The Bond Graph technique is a graphical language of modeling, in which component energy ports are co…

Polymorphism-Triggered Reversible Thermochromic Fluorescence of a simple 1,8-Naphthyridine

2013

The fluorescent behavior in the solid state of a naphthyridine-based donor–acceptor heterocycle is presented. Synthesized as a crystalline blue-emissive solid (Pbca), the compound can easily be transformed in its P21/c polymorphic form by heating. The latter material shows blue to cyan emission switching triggered by a reversible thermally induced phase transformation. This fact, the reversible acidochromism, and the strong anisotropic fluorescence of the compound in the solid state, account for the potential of 1,8-naphthyridines as simple and highly tunable organic compounds in materials science.
