The changes in the soil hydrodynamic properties following soil tillage were investigated in rainfall simulation trials of intermittent rain at the Masse experimental station (Soil Erosion LABoratory, SERLAB) in central Italy. Reduction in pore water pressure is an useful strategy to improve the stability of slopes. Deep draining trenches can be used for this purpose. For the realization of deep trenches, the usual conventional construction techniques are not adequate and the use of adjacent vertical panels, built by means of the methods well-established for diaphragm walls, is necessary. In the theoretical description, two physical parameters were defined (the dead-end porosity and the average length of the dead-end pores). It was shown recently in Nevers, France, Sherbrooke, Canada and Salford, UK, that porous materials with semi-opened pores or materials with open pores bearing lateral cavities or resonators at the microscopic scale of the pores can result in peculiar sound absorption properties. Various examples of these materials can be found in engineering and in everyday life including bio-based materials. The cavities and resonators can be assimilated to dead-end pores, which are opened at one end and closed at the other. The dead-end pores are known to geophysicists. A procedure based on the high-field mechanism of the growth of anodic oxides was developed in order to evaluate the morphological features of porous layers. Since the thickness of the barrier film, separating the porous layer from the metal, does not change during the steady-state growth of an anodic porous layer, the rate of displacement of the metal-oxide interface to the metal direction must be equal to the rate of displacement of the pore base to the oxide direction.
